Is it too early for a Christmas tree / decorations thread?

I just couldn't wait any longer..

First photo, living room tree, the tree and glass ball ornaments were my grandmother's when I was little. Everything else is either vintage finds or homemade ornaments.

Next photo, dining room / kitchen tree, not so vintage, lol. Fiber optic tree, drugstore glass ornaments.

Third photo, kids room tree. Vintage 4 foot tree from an estate sale, vintage bubble lights, and mostly vintage and random ornaments from various sales.

Fourth photo, living room, Christmas village. The only vintage thing here is the silver garland around the edge of the village. I always wanted a village, loved seeing them at people's houses as a kid, so I built this one by purchasing a few items every Christmas for years, until it reached a point I was happy with it.

Last two photos, vintage plastic popcorn snowman and santa wall decorations, I actually picked them up just a couple of weeks ago in a little junkstore for 25 cents each!

In my opinion, no, but in my Dad's opinion, yes. I will most likely put up all the lights outside this weekend, but won't be able to turn them on until Thanksgiving night. I will gradually put up everything except the upstairs living room tree, which will have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving. We will be having two trees downstairs, and various other decorations throughout the house, so I have plenty to do. I love Christmas, and tend to go a bit overboard on decorating

Then anytime is a good time to decorate.

 

I have a friend that decorates every inch of her home for the holidays, from the bathroom to the laundry.  

 

Another loves the decorations so much she never takes them  down, just adds to them more each year.

 

Life is short--enjoy it.

No! Im so excited for christmas decorating! My house always looks like christmas threw up in it, my way of compensating for my mom never letting me decorate as a kid. Unfortunately, this year I will have to hire someone to put my outdoor lights up since both my husband and I will be having back surgeries in the next few weeks. Bums me out, LOVE hanging lights outside.

The lighted wreaths and swags came today. Couldn't resist putting them up! We moved in at the beginning of last December. There was no time to put up anything for the holidays. Going to go all-out this year! I spent 10 years working for a Christmas ornament company. Have lots of great stuff!

My mom still hangs those vintage plastic popcorn decorations!

For years, when we had a chocolate brown front door (with no windows), Frosty really popped!

Nothing is visible here at my house yet, the fall wreath is still out.  However, I have made plans and scheduled the household decorating.  I have taken a few lights, etc. out in the basement to test them.  I've been listening to some holiday music on XM in the car and I've bought a few gifts.

14-17th December up for me then 1st or 2nd January down. Never done the twelfth night thing. I absolutely love Christmas decorations and lights and am a collector though i have had to restrain myself from buying more as can't use them all. I like a few sets of outdoor lights. Would like a wicker snowman and reindeer but guess i would have to go to America for that which i plan to one of these days. Life is too short to worry about when to put decorations up. Have fun

I wanted to say something at the first posting but I held my peace.
This is the extreme turnoff to me because of the commercialization what Christmas is all about. I am fed up with Christmas when they show Christmas commercial or Christmas jingles before Halloween and we have not had a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving as a family before Christmas.

To this day I will never enjoy Christmas until they get it right.
I can't stand to push, slow it down and let's enjoy each holiday as it comes!
Otherwise....., enjoy giving your money towards big corporations and forget about your families true value of the meanings of the holidays.

Well stated.  I'm glad you decided to post. 

 

Just because the corporations start trying to pimp out consumers around Halloween in order to satisfy their shareholders, it doesn't mean people can't take a pass on drinking their Kool-Aid until after Thanksgiving.

 

These days, Thanksgiving doesn't kick off the holiday season -- it has been absorbed into it and as a result has become marginalized.

 

For me, obscene commercialization has made the holiday season a total turn-off.  Repetitive advertisements on TV and radio begin to grate several weeks before Xmas day.  Traffic becomes a nightmare and rude behavior the norm.  Throw in cell phones behind the wheel and ideal conditions for total anarchy fall into place.

 

One lousy day of good cheer and celebration does not balance out a nearly two-month assault of frenzied madness rooted in retail warfare everywhere one turns. 

 

Children of the capitalist world, grow up and exercise some self-control.  The holidays will get here.  On November 28th.

I happen to love decorations, but for years, actually, the Christmas season has been pushed back to nearly October 30 in some stores. I go with Ralph(rp2813), JohnL(combo52, and others on when to pull out the decorations and start celebrating. I said the same thing as you, Ralph...what happened to Thanksgiving? It's a no-show for money, so it's "absorbed" into the Christmas retail offensive. It's no fun anymore, seeing Christmas overshadowing Thanksgiving. I try hard not to look at all the stuff in the stores and commercials alluding to it.

But I appreciate the decorations and don't scorn someone for dressing up their interiors if they can't wait. I know people who wished Christmas lasted all year. Actually, it does.

It's cold as a witches you know what in some parts of the country and if they didn't put out the decorations on the streets, it's a pain to do it in the frigid weather, after Thanksgiving. So while I don't like to see it before Thanksgiving, it's showing up anyways (they already put up lights and decorated the tree in this town, two weeks ago- not pleased about that.

In our hometown, Christmas would show up, after November 28th, and the decorations were set out on the lamp posts, Santa Claus (a huge statue) is brought out at the boulevard, with the manger at City Hall. In past years, the ACLU has made in-roads to have some of these things moved or removed altogether(another story!).

Kevin - your tree is nice and glad you are enjoying it all. Some people wait til after Thanksgiving, but whatever makes you happy. Life: we're just visiting anyways, and the trip is already way too fast. But I wish the decorations would wait til after Thanksgiving or no sooner than the week of it.

Nahh, working today on one of the FIVE trees I'm responsible for every year. We usually try and get the inside finished right before Tgiving. Mainly because I'm the head cook and it's just easier that way.

The neighbors already have some lame a%% LED C7 lights up. Hoping to get my 28+ strands of C7 up right after Tgiving.

We usually go with a theme, the past three years it's a 1950's tree, complete with the correct lights (including those mortage the house level pink ones). This year though, I'm a bit stumped.

I left the Halloween tree a little later than normal, in fact, I JUST took it down.

I generally don't do much decorating for Christmas myself. My father grew up in Poland and their xmas tree went up on Christmas Eve and was done by the parents and was down by probably boxing day (which explains why we always waited until the last minute to get a tree as a kid).

I've already gotten sick of holiday music on the radio and in stores this year, it seems to me that the entire retail model which bases the stores success on one holiday is a flawed one (particularly since there as been precious little that I've wanted to buy lately too).

But then again, I'm a crotchety old scrooge!

I'm not out to hurt no one, but when the media whip us into a frenzy and I just refuse to buy into it!
I avoid all stores during this part of the year for when we were children the tree went up after Thanksgiving and not a day before.
If you have a busy schedule then that is your choice.
Christmas for me is not a one day event, it's 365 days a year or 366 if it is Leap Year.

The purpose of the Big Store pushing sales is to keep the stores afloat until Easter.
During the dead months we all stay indoors because of the cold wet weather so they have no choice but to program everyone to march to the stores earlier and earlier each year......SMH!!!

BTW, whose Birthday are we celebrating?
Macy, Best Buys, Target, ConEd, all stores or Christ?
