Is it too early for a Christmas tree / decorations thread?

I've no time to put them up. Otherwise the halls would be fully decked by now!

I have ordered a 10ft and a 5ft Xmas tree tho!

Our family used to decorate and put the tree up on Dec 15. When they were kids, their parents would follow German tradition and do the tree on Dec 23 with Christmas coming after dinner on Dec 24. They said that they weren't allowed in the room where the tree was after it was put up until after Dec 24 dinner. We did our Christmas around 7am on Christmas day.

We put a tree up last year. But we haven't done any outside decoration of the house since 2008. It's our way of protesting the state of the economy in this country.

I haven't put my tree up for 2 or 3 years. I have a ton of very nice ornaments my partner and I collected over the years along with beads and other decorative stuff. The last time my tree was up (it's a very nice realistic tree ) friends came over and immediately poo-pooed it. "There's no theme," there's no color scheme," "there's too much old-fashioned stuff" to which I really should have replied "there's the door!" I think I'll put it up tomorrow.

Good for you joe!

Put your tree up and enjoy it. I dont comment on my friends monochromatic modern trees, they don't on my many colored old fashioned one. We decorate our homes (and our trees) for our own happiness and taste not that of the rest of the world.

(Though in all truth I have had positive comments from people who have themed modern style trees, that mine looks so old fashioned and christmassy and they love it.)

Just like Larry & Louie said

I'm tired of "Happy Holidays", Holiday Season, and anything related to that ilk.  It's Merry Christmas and the Christmas Season.  And when I get slapped upside the head with anyone in retail that says something like Happy Holidays, I respond with Merry Christmas to you too.

*won't talk about the people down the street that put their CHRISTMAS tree, yes CHRISTMAS tree, about mid October.

At least my Halloween tree is correct for the season.

Here it is!

My tree looks pretty much the same each year.  I prefer this traditional motif.  One special thing is that hidden amongst the normal ornaments in varied locations are what I refer to at the "specialty" ornaments.  These are ornaments that were given to me by family members or friends who are no longer with us.  I felt the slightest tinge of pain this morning when I hung Grandmother's ornaments, this will be the second Christmas without her.  Every year gets better.

The second photo is of a vintage arrangement that also belong to my Grandmother, I have no idea of it's age.

Just got the outdoor lights connected this weekend.  I'm still working on the inside decorations - I may be overthinking things this year trying not to go too overboard.  So far, though, things are looking good - photographic proof coming soon!

I did splurge on a real tree this year, but since Hubby's away and we're throwing a party in town on December 13th we'll not be putting it up until around the 20th.  Geez, it has been years since we've had a real tree!

Here are some photos I shot on Friday night of the outdoor lights.  The snow we got on Wednesday and Thursday was just the right consistency to settle on the trees and branches.  I couldn't have planned it better!  Pity it's melted now...
