I found these at a garage sale on Saturday. They are chip and blemish free. I had been looking for another set of mixing bowls but do not really care too much for the new look of today's. The seller told me that he's had them for about 50 years. Really?

He has my number as he may be selling a matching harvest wheat colored set. I forget how long bowls like these have been around...

My mother

got some in the Pink Gooseberry pattern as wedding gifts in 1956, so the seller is correct about the style, but I am not sure about that particular pattern.

The idea is that the broader lip is a handle, and the smaller lip is for pouring.

Those are LOVELY.

The only word of caution I would give you is that the patterns on some of this will fade with dishwasher washing. You can see lots of Pyrex patterns in eBay. Just search vintage Pyrex and get comfortable. Books have been writen about the stuff. Old shelter magazines have ads. Be careful; you might find stuff that you did not know that you needed, but just have to have. The decorations applied to Pyrex are amazing.

Drew you can use them everyday if you like

but as Tomturbomatic says just don't dishwasher washe them and they will be fine. As a matter of fact I know a lady who has been using a pink gooseberry set since she got them as a wedding present in 1959 and they look as good as new because she has never had a dishwasher in her life....PAT COFFEY

Drew,

The pattern you have is called "Amish Butterprint" It dates from around the early 60's and I believe was available for most of the decade. So the seller would be correct about that set being nearly 50 years old.

My gram has a set of pyrex "Primary Colors"(which consists of a yellow bowl, green bowl, red bowl, and blue bowl. It was a wedding gift in 1957, that pattern had been around for a few years before that.

and naturally I had to have "Butterfly Gold" which was made to match Corning's Butterfly Gold dinnerware which I have a complete set for 8 as well as all serving pieces and Pyrex refrigerator dishes. I'm still looking for the drinking glasses and napkin rings[this post was last edited: 8/2/2010-19:32]

Nice pyrex!

I have some bowls, but they don't match. I have a huge yellow one, a medium sized green, a brown with wheat on it, and a 'butterfly gold' patterned one with the spouts. (also a lid with the gold one)

I do put my colored pyrex in the dishwasher and there appears to be no color fading. If you're not sure about it, don't do it. My pyrex aren't museum pieces anyway.

I just love that Early American. That is a neat pattern.

Holy Moly! You weren't kidding! I searched Vintage Pyrex on EBay and was bowled over by what's there. I even found a couple of patterns that I remember my parents having when I was quite young...

Andy, what a great find. My mom had a set in yellow from the early 50's Those turquoise are a real find. JoEllen has been looking for a set in pink like that. Yea, don't put them in the dishwasher. Color will eventually fade. We have a set of orange and white from wedding in 1971 which are faded out. They are great mixing bowls and you can bake in them as well. enjoy them Dano

Well I've found what appeaers to be mine, but I can't tell the difference between the two. One is green crazy daisy and the other is green spring blossom, they both look the same to me. I never realized the bowls with the lips, one side was wider than the other to be kind of like a handle. hmm, duh!!! I think I have everything that was offerend in this pattern/set except a covered divided casserole dish (which I could have gotten but just didn't see an application/need for it) and the lid to my 1.5 qt. oval casserole was stolen during college.

Maybe an expert can tell me the difference between the green spring blossom, or called crazy daisy, or referred to green wild flower. They all look the same to me in photos.

Very Nice!

The "Amish Butterprint" are quite collectible. Your set is in very good condition.
I love the vintage Pyrex.
I don't know the whole history but it seems that "GlassBake" was before Pyrex. Pyrex bought them out and used the GlassBake name for awhile, then dropped it when Pyrex's name became so huge.
Great find you have there! They look mint!

For me it would come down to using them and putting them in the dishwasher or using them a breaking them washing by hand. I think a lot of stuff survives today because the risk of dropping or chipping when hand washing is gone.

I've got a set from the 60's or 70's that gets used all the time and put in the dishwasher every time. The color faded a bit, but to me it's no big deal.

I'm the same way Lawrence & Matt. One of the many reasons why I don't prerinse. I have more of a tendency to drop or slip wet things over--I;ve noticed over the years and it gets worse as I get older.

Sam,

Nice "Butterfly Gold" Pyrex bowls! My parents received that pattern of Corning dinnerware when they got married in 1977. Mom's color of choice was harvest gold so it matched well with her pots, pans, and countertop appliances. What memories! Thanks for sharing :-).

My mother has a set of those in a gold/red color. The color doesn't hold up too well in the dishwasher. She had some in blue but those were thrown at my Dad years ago.
Fifty years sounds right, my Mom and Dad would have been married 50 years this October.
