Seems to me the scent of Ultra Tide HE Original Scent is pretty subtle/weak compared to just about every other detergent I've tried (pretty much everything else Proctor & Gamble makes, I've tried). Has anyone else noticed the same thing? I haven't been doing my own laundry long, just a few years, and every time I try another detergent, I can barely tolerate the smell. So many are offensive AND strong, especially Tide Coldwater Fresh Scent, which I'd love to love because I suspect that chemically, Tide Coldwater is fantastic. Also, Total Care Renewing Rain -- even though I'd love to like Total Care -- I just can't get over that awful scent. RIP Total Care, I think it's been discontinued.

Anyway I've just noticed that Ultra Tide HE Original Scent is a subtle aroma that dissipates quickly, which I find sad since it's such a pleasant smell in my opinion. Am I imagining things or is it really weakly scented?

Just in case Proctor & Gamble read these comments, let me add, that I suspect if they tried to strengthen it, they'd somehow ruin it, like they apparently did with the April Fresh scent a couple years ago (I hear). Best to leave well enough alone, and count our blessings on this, lest they mess it up.

Have a bottle of Tide "HE" liquid

Regular scent that was "gifted" (well found near the building's recycling bin" was brand new and full so...

Find if you are very careful with the dosage and your washer rinses well the scent isn't *that* bad. Streets ahead of that ghastly "Tide Simple" or whatever it is called.

Thank you for your feedback.

Of the more strongly-scented P&G products, I'd say Gain is a close runner-up to Tide Original Scent, aromatically-speaking. Though it is quite strong, it's not offensive, at least to me anyway. I just like Tide better since it's a superior detergent with better enzymes, sodium percarbonate, and a sodium percarbonate activator. None of which are found in Gain.

Well, maybe the need to super-concentrate it means there's less room for scent? Anyway yes I'm serious. Ultra Tide HE Original Scent powder that I buy from Costco seems relatively gently scented compared to other P&G detergents.

Of course, I'm not including Free versions in my comparison. Of course by definition, they'd have very little aroma of any kind.

original scent- really?

Original scent? When did that first come out on the market? Tide of the 1950's didn't smell at all like the "Original Scent" Tide that is out there. I would think that "original scent" would mean when Tide first appeared on the grocery shelves of the last 40's and 50's. It had a clean smell then and no wretched flower smell. All of the detergents that are around now and first appeared in or around the '50's has nothing to do with the way they smelled then. To name a few: Tide, Cheer, Oxydol, All and Wisk smell nothing like they did when they first became available.

My question is about whatever Original Scent is now, in 2014, going back to at least 2012 when I started doing my own laundry and paying attention to this stuff.

Why do you think Tide Total Care has be discontinued?

Since the stores in my area no longer carry Cheer for Darks, I have switched to Tide Total Care for my nice shirts and dark clothing. It seems to protect against fading, and leaves clothing feeling soft.

I have been hurt too many times. Sometimes I think me liking a product is its kiss of death. I should have kept myself from loving Downy Advanced.

Do not use Tide liquid often, do not like liquids very much, but IMO it does have just the right amount of scent, not too much, not too less...
In any ways it happens that a few items do not smell at all when they come out the dryer or from the line when using line 1 or 2 of the cap....
Pretty disappointing.....
But most liquids use to do so, it is not a Tide thing only, one of the exceptions is italian bolt, that i loathe anyway, not for this, but for the fruity sweet scent of their liquid products that smell like a candy factory, even gain liquid does not leave much smell in the dosage for light soil... That's another reason why I hate liquid over not washing as good as powders.
, I can tell you Bolt powder is the italian version of Gain powder regarding smell, and so is German Dash being the same of what bolt is here, not only the smell and products are similar, they are marketed just like Gain is in the USA, graphic, package style are similar and even websites www.ilovegain.com is www.ilovebolt.it. ....but, differently than Gain, the liquid version of Bolt/ german dash have totally different smell than the powder,...anyway, to be honest, I was surprised to discover that gain liquid really recall the smell of the powder, and that is so strange as liquids never does,, so is gain that is "weird" here, but in a very good sense anyway because it's better this way IMO!
Speaking of Tide.
Now, not sure if they have decreased the smell, as I have not used the liquid stuff in awhile... But the last 100 fl oz bottle I used ( about november 2013) seemed somewhat weaker in the scent than the previous 50 fl oz loads of hope I have used in June....the three mini bottles I brought home from visiting family smelled regularly....so I thought it was just me.
Maybe, if it's really so, it may rely in the fact that Michael pointed out in a recent thread. Ie that now seems P&G watered down Tide?
I do not see Tide decreasing the amount of perrfume, me, would be one that if they did I would probably never buy their stuff again, because as I said I found it to be the "right" fair amount, not offensive nor scentles, fair, right, but less would probably result in most of laundry not smelling good anymore so I would leave it...
I like the liquid tide smell...too bad it won't wash well like the powder.
I like the scent of the powder too, and while it is delicate it last on clothes, but about smell I prefer more Gain powder to Tide's one.
Anyway, i still have a pretty large amount of Tide powder to use, after that I will not buy Tide anymore or others P&G products as I don't like how they're doing lately and how they brought things to be.....
There are thousands detergents the same or even better than Tide out there, and not less important, much cheaper....
They can go to hell for what concerns me....

I find that the Tide powder" Original scent" has changed yet again when they introduced the ActiLift Crystals. The non crystal formula had a better scent to it and it lasted for a few days. That was my signature scent with Downy April Fresh. My laundry always smelled clean and fresh and was not overpowering scent wise. I cannot for the life of me understand the liking of a strong scented detergent like Gain. Couple that with the Gain softener and the aroma makes me gag. That along with Suavitel any scent which to my nose is stinky. Or the Lavendar scented Downy that scent is enough of a repellent, plus when the dryer is running it smells like a whore house. I often wonder what the hell are these companies thinking when they introduce a scent or "improve" on a scent like the disasterous Downy April Fresh a couple of years ago. I had to stop using it and threw it out, it just reeked.

I could be wrong about Total Care being discontinued. Thought I read it somewhere but a few seconds on Google turned up nothing.

Agree with you about Gain, it's much too strong. In very small amounts though I don't mind it. It's the sheer quantity of it that bothers me.

Gasoline.........

is what Tide original smelled like when it first came out, and NOW it just smells like a different octane! Still smell like gasoline to me....and it does not get odors out of clothes such as towels....I made the switch to Wisk, and I am glad I did. I feel confident that my wash is fresher with Wisk than with Tide.
