Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It's tagged "Imperial Selectra 21." There probably was a "Superba Selectra 21" as well (I do remember seeing that - Superba Selectra). Two (or more) electronic control models in the line, before electronics became the norm. Interesting.

You know it's funny...

I started out only wanting to find and buy an early Frigidaire washer and dryer set. Now I'm buying multiple dishwashers (have a WP and a reverse rack Maytag too), and have many sets of W&D's as well as a Kirby Tradition, a couple of Electrolux vacuums and other miscellaneous stuff too numerous to mention. My friends think I'm crazy and my significant other did too at first, but now even he has become interested and supportive. Thanks to everyone here at Automatic Washer.org for all you do and mean to me !!!

Patrick, that micro mesh on your Imperial Selectra is vital. The space below it is the soil collection chamber--during washing and rinsing, water is pumped up through it by the drain impeller. If the micro filter is compromised in any way, anything that can pass through the turquoise drain strainer can float right out of the pump top and then be pulled in by the wash impeller and sent on to collect in the wash arms. It is also because of that microfilter that KitchenAid could get by with 1 rinse. I haven't come across any satisfactory material to replace this mesh with--best to get a new pump top. The new part (used on all 22 series) has a finer, sturdier mesh than the original. Whereas every 21 model I've seen has a torn or missing microfilter, every 22 series I've seen has a completely intact microfilter.

Patrick,
Thanks so much for the pictures of your dishwasher.
I know how you feel about dishwashers. I have too many. Actually starting to break them down for parts and such.
The reverse rack Maytag is a wonderful machine. I find it the most powerful wash system that was around back then. It will clean anything!!!
I have the KUDS 23 also. This is a very good machine. I really like the WP pumps that were in these machines. The rapid advance timer in this bugger really kick's booty. I am so shocked at how fast it is. One of the interesting things is that your face plate is black, and mine is all white. Interesting.
I have a Maytag reverse rack in my house, and also a Kitchenaid KDS-18. I love hearing them both run at the same time!!!
I ain't right.

Tom,

Thanks for the info on the mesh screen. I figured it was necessary but didn't know how so. I will measure and see if the newer design will fit the top of this pump and if so will give repair clinic some more of my money and order it. So far I've had good luck with them. Patrick

Brent,

I currently have the Maytag WU404 installed in my kitchen. I love the sound of that machine running and the clicking of it's timer. It is a very good performer and it's porcelain shines as though it's brand new. I certainly won't be parting with it. I'll just have to keep rotating them.

agiflow,

The KDIS21 was made by Hobart before they sold out to Whirlpool. The KUDS23 was made by Whirlpool still using some of Hobarts original design.
