Jenn Air Convection Oven

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Always got a kick out of opening that huge glass oven door and here was this little shoebox sized oven... Remember, Steve, it's not the AGE of the taxicab but how many rough miles on it. Some will even say something about how much time spent sitting with the engine idling and the meter running... LOL

That's a very nice looking range, and it gets extra points for being all analog. When we re-did our kitchen 18 years ago all the magazines and kitchen re-do books depicted JennAir ranges. We had no range hood so decided to take the downdraft route and bought a dual fuel model that retained the lines of the one pictured above. It served us well but we never liked how wimpy the burners were and the racket made by the grates. I suspect a smooth top electric would provide a less noisy cooking experience.

I vaguely remember this model. Actually most of my experience with this model is in my service years. Growing up , i learned to cook on an old S106. Finally graduated to a D/F in my adult years. I agree with a previous post about the burners being wimpy on the D/F. This model should serve you well for a long time.

Does Whirlpool still make them?

~yah, I'm 34 and really don't want to get any older. Hauling vintage appliances takes a toll on the body.

WAIT! At my age some have to get it up with a crane.
(Moving a stove or W or D, up a flight or two of stairs, I mean).

That shelf holding the controls is an awful grease-catcher (a la Caloric). Huge P.I.T.A.

I also have heard of a grease fire in the exhaust system igniting a home.

But damn if it isn't a good-looking stove!

Duh I thought that was yet another classic. Didn't realize you meant the showcased red and black already shown.

:-)

I guess maybe I need to get a thread going with pix of our new Electrolux Icon professional series dual fuel range. Two kick-ass 18K BTU burners up front and a cool looking cobalt finish in the oven cavity. The old JennAir DF is simply no match for it.

The Jenn Air has flat, sealed, and coild modules, I've had no problem with heat. The griddle is fine too, real even heat. Seems like these were cuting edge flat tops, given the rest is analog, anyone know the dates on modern flat cook tops?

I think electric JennAir cooktops are superior to their gas ones. And smooth top would be the way to go. Did you get the exhaust fan assembly along with the stove?

Ralph, yes it has a working fan assembly, I also have a spare fan, and could get another one if I acted quick, you need one?

Ken, I found a gorgeous one (washer) about a year ago, I gave it to one of our heavy hitters, who has yet to unvail it. I had no idea what I had when I got it. But, Patience, patience, patience, one will come along in due time, your request is on my (long) list...

Ooh.

Baby wants that!

Seriously, nice Jenn-Air. I've always lusted after one from that generation, but they don't turn up too often. When they were the latest thing, a friend had one with the electrostatic air-cleaner base (the "Anywhere Jenn-Air"). It had the open-coil modules, which I prefer to the smooth-top ones. Nice, nice, nice range.

Someone round the corner from us just tossed one out in the trash this past Tuesday and there's a white newer Jenn Air at the Habitat Restore here, the one with electronic touchpad controls for the oven for $200.. but even nicer is an older Dacor downdraft.. I must try and remember to go get at pic of them tomorrow.. remind me..

LIKE OMG!!!! I LOVE IT!!! I remember that model very well because my aunt and uncle remodeled their kitchen back in 1984 and they got the same Jenn Air range. I distinctly remember the grill feature and how "cool" it seemed to have an indoor grill. My question is did these ranges have the option of a flat cooking surface or having standard burners?

Stephen

Steven, these Jenn Air's have modules that plug in the two slots. I have all the modules, flat top, coil, sealed, grill and griddle. If you like, it, it 's for sale at a very reasonable price. Have you heard about Michigan's economy? I have a lot of other stuff.

Matt

Mike, Thanks so much for offering to sell it to me. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no room at my apartment or in storage since most of my collection is vacuums. The good news is that I am looking at buying a home in the next few months sooooo that might be my opportunity to get one of these ranges to put in my kitchen in the future.

Stephen

Matt, you listed most everything...

but the deep fat fryer. My brother had/has a deep fat fryer made for the Jenn Air, but I don't recall if it was a cartridge set up. Have you got one or seen one?

I'll have to ask my brother if he still has it, they are on their second Jenn Air, got their first in '88 and replaced it in 2005. Dave uses the grill 4 or 5 times a week, says he wouldn't be without it. Doesn't even bother to grill outdoors, sorry that's too much for me -- I need my steak, chicken and ribs on the real grill.
