While we are at it....

I also think the world would be a better place without Pat Robertson, Fred Phelps, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

All you are supposed to say nice things bout the dead..

But how can i with him.. I agree with the others,
Hes dead. I approve.. Move on.. Maybe he will come back as a black homosexual or a hispanic lesbian in the next life.. LoL...

Ok, now i must go behave...

I should feel bad about somebody that has passed away.I don't not for him I know this is awful but he has caused me nothing but Pain in my life. That poison he spits out that the gays are the cause of Everything and My Family being such devout Chirstians wants me to go to LOVE in ACTION so they can fix me cause I am the essence of evil and the reason 9/11 happened and all thoese people died becaused I (((CHOOSE))) to be gay.THAT one man has caused me so much pain and I have never met him and I am HAPPY that he can't hurt people anymore..

wow!

I never really paid much attention to Jerry, yes I knew of his stance on gays and abortion and such, but never really gave him a second thought.
I'd put him in the same class as Pat Robertson, Jim Bakker, and even the esteemed Ted Haggard.

Reading this thread this morning though I remember words from one of my college professors. Those words were: "Remember Satan has many faces, even that of a pastor"

Burn Jerry Burn!!

Why now, why not 50 years ago?

I'm a straigt Jewish guy, and I am hard-pressed to think of a person who was the cause of as much hatred and hurt to so many people over such a long time as Jerry Fallwell. The fact that he did these terrible things in the name of God was even more disturbing. He took advantage of so many otherwise good people and turned them against so many good people, not because of anything those people did, but because of pure hate. I think people like Jerry Fallwell are both evil and dangerous because they do so little to help the world and so much more to harm it. Besides, although I am Jewish, I thought Christianity had something to do with loving people, not hating them.

Just because someone is now dead, it doesn't magically make their life any better. Jerry Fallwell is dead, in life he was a hate-monger, his being dead does not change that.

A much happier,
David

My parents were never big on the whole 'never speak ill

But they did teach me to be honest. I think he was an evil man while he lived, and it would be the height of hypocrisy to pretend otherwise now that he's finally dead.

Doubtless others will move in to take his place, but here's hoping they're less successful in their endeavors.

I ignored him. I did not subscribe to his brand of Christian fascism, nor did/do I believe that any televanglist was/is reputable. They will all get their come-uppance. It was Jerry's turn.

Now, Fred Phelps, that is another story...

YUK! They are ALL the same to me. I tried to make a deal with the the christian church.... I will stay out of their church, if they stay out of my life. I have kept my end of the deal, but they have not.....

Don't know why it should be so hard for them. And it really does go all the way from the catholic church and the pope himself, to the little snake worshiping churches like Rev. Phelps. They are all full of hate toward the Gay Community to a certain degree. Some churches are just more vocal about it than others. To tell the truth, I am sick of the church demonizing the Gay Community.

"Hate the sin, love the sinner" I have heard that one a few times from catholics my own family. I come back with,"Hate the church, love the christian" Then I always explain that the "sin" and the "sinner" are one and the same in this case, and those words are insulting to the Gay Community. Their faces turn red, but what else is one to do? People have to learn the truth about us, and the fact is they are not ever going to learn the truth from any church.

Actually---Lynchburg is o.k.-------

I mean, it seems to be a pretty normal piece of Americana to me. Certainly it lacks nothing----is full of liquor stores, porn shops and other sin mills that make the world go 'round.
The average people off the street are like any other place.

However it only take a little cruise past the Liberty "complex" to see what funneling the vast accumulated wealth of Evangelical contributions has paid for. On the Falwell "homestead" is private airport that is the size of a commercial airport! The last time I went past it with Mark and Gary, the ramp was FULL of all sorts of "heavy metal" large business jets up to and including unmarked Boeing 737's, oh, and I spied a few military jets too----hmmmm.

The cost of building and operating an airport of that size is in itself---huge. Nevermind the amount of money funneled into the political/religious/media (propaganda-entertainment) branchs of this monster.

The scariest thing of all is the thought of how many Americans truly believe in this kind of "religion" and POUR their hard-earned dollars into it.And make no mistake---there are also some VERY wealthy companies and individuals---thousands actually, that also pour money into the coffers. Fallwell and the others like him could not exist without them! They have created a cottage industry! AND not a few of these industries were MADE financially successful by riding the tide of money flowing in. Quite the sordid affair.

Speaking of sordid affairs---I hope Whitten's embalmers did a good job as they plan to parade his body around untill next Tuesday. Will lie in state two days each at Liberty University and also at the church he founded. Whats all that about the body being "nothing but a shell" and "only the spirit achieves eternal life"? So why all the fuss over Falwell's remains? Oh yeah, I know----I just had to say it anyway. Oh, the hypocrisy of it all.

Oh and I just HAVE to get in the zinger about the Bush administration. Don't you know they will be at the funeral in DROVES!
Falwell once told an interviewer from Vanity Fair that "The Bush administration NEVER makes a major decision without consulting with him first". And that "not a day goes by that he does no call or recieve calls from Bush or Cheney".
Now, if those are lies---I NEVER once heard a peep out of the "official Whitehouse" propagandist to refute them. And you can believe Karl Rove (Bush's high-tech version of Joeseph Goebbels) would have screamed about it!

So what feeds this monster won't change----but they will die off. And we can look forward to the changes time always brings.

In the mean time who will step in to fill the vacuum? (sorry)

My guess is Rev. John Hagee.
A very powerful and hypnotic orator. And if you think Falwell was extreme----tune in to one of Hagee's shows sometime!

Never a dull moment----------
