KDS-18 for sale

Just wanted to put this out there. I am relocating to a smaller home and have decided that I do not want to bring my KDS-18 with me as I moved the KA tall tub there instead because of the kitchen's proximity to the main living areas of the house and the need for a quieter machine.

I do not want to crush the old machine as it is in good condition and runs well. It has a new timer in it as well as the upgraded Hobart Single arm wash arm which outperforms the 4 way Hydrosweep arm by miles. It has the vari-front panel kit and also a set of stainless steel panels to go inside that kit. I had them custom cut but the fabricator cut the top one too short and he has not yet gotten me the correct sized panel yet but they will go with the machine as well. The racks are in good condition with no signs of rusting.

If nobody comes forth with a reasonable offer, I will part out the machine. Let me know here or by email if you are interested. I have to get rid of it by October 1st when I close on this house.

Needless to say, you would have to pick it up. It is currently in Palm Coast Fl., but if I have to, I can bring it to West Melbourne and it can be picked up there.

Oh, one last thing to consider... All the innards from the 18 are installed in a 20 series tank as the original 18 tank rusted thru so there is no constant rinse in this machine. It does have the top manifold with the slit in it that does spray water out over the top rack. Maybe not as totally effective as the constant rinse was, but I really never had any problems with yibbles and such but then again, I do scrape my dishes, though rarely pre-rinse them before loading them into the machine.
Will throw in some extra parts to keep you supplied!

First, Ben... just what part of the single or should I say, straight arm, would you be interested in?

And Roger, I may have misled you and others who are not familiar with this setup.
The last "single" arm Kitchenaid was the 17 series. That was a single Hydrosweep arm on the bottom of the machine.

The "Single" arm in the pictures above was actually a straight arm that replaced the Hydrosweep arms in Hobart's WM5 series machines and then was carried over into their SR24 Series undercounter machines. Both the WM5 and SR 24's used the same wash pump components as the series 18/19/20 Kitchenaid pumps. When the WM5 series (based on the European Kitchenaid 18 series) was discontinued and replaced by the LX series, they continued with the straight arms on the bottom and top of the wash tanks. BTW, the WM5 series had the usual lower arm(either the original hydrosweep or the straight arm on the bottom and a smaller arm on top facing down. It was very reminiscent of the original smaller washarm in the original 18 series but again, spraying down.

They replaced the original Hydrosweeps in the later WM series probably for a few reasons. The wash arm supports wore out frequently especially with the more caustic detergents and higher temperatures found in the commercial machine. We all know about the washarm supports wearing out in our own 18 through 23 series machines as they got older. Had to be a great money maker for Whirlpool while they were still available.

The replacement kits included a new wash arm support and pump housing made of a more durable material. Secured by 8 screws not 4 like the KA pump parts so they did not warp and lose pressure and the single arm which was secured by a thumbscrew. Also, there was a new style fine strainer to go with the particular kit for specific models.

These straight arms turn faster than the Hydrosweep arms. In the LX series, granted with a 3/4 hp pump the washarm turns at nearly 100 rpm. Man does it clean the dishes!

So to actually answer your question Roger, NO Kitchenaid after the 17 seriesever came with the straight style arm unless the user wanted to spend nearly as much as the machine cost new to retrofit their machine.And we all know all Kitchenaid DW's after the 17 had at least 2 washarms.

I'm guessing here, but I would imagine that the wash arm support is totally different with the Hobart commercial wash arm, vs. the domestic Hydrosweep wash arm (and possibly the pump housing and filter?).

So, any parts associated to convert a KD-18/19/20 machine from the HydroSweep to the commercial single arm. While I just replaced the support/wash arm on the KDS-20, I'd love to give this a whirl. No pun intended
