I would not get the washer. That agitator is not a 2 piece agitator. Will not move/rollover clothing at all.

Thanks good to know. If you were going to buy a moderately priced set washer/gas dryer what would you buy? Buying a speed queen pair is not in my budget. Have never had a front loader. Open to it but in Central Oregon where I live, no one will do warranty work on LGs and Samsungs. I can get repairs done but would have to pay for them myself. Do have pets. Wish list features, quick wash, extra rinse and I am single so no need for super large washer.

If you've got pets, my suggestion is to not get all excited about using Quick Wash.

I usually recommend the $449. or $499 Amana, Roper, or Kenmore top load with the 2 piece dual action agitator. This style agitator makes all the difference in rollover. Just be aware that these machines are not built to last more than 8-10 years....sorry to say. Also any matching Whirlpool family dryer with the lint screen on the top is recommended as well.

The top filter Whirlpool dryer has many advantages over other brands. It's a design that has been around since the mid-60's. It's wider drum and air flow pattern allow for fast, wrinkle free drying. It's easy and cheap to fix, and does not accumulate lint inside the cabinet as other designs do because the blower/fan is in the back of the cabinet. It also has stronger airflow to vent outdoors for the same reason. It is usually the only design I recommend, unless your installation requires a front serviceable unit. The only disadvantage is some repairs have to be done from the back, especially a gas dryer.

Is this also an agitator one to avoid? Might also be the same as the other Kenmore available from Costco. This one I am also asking about is theone with the porcelain basket. Not sure the agitator is the same or not.

Sorry Coldspot66, not clear on your post. Do both models have the same agitator to your knowledge?

One is Model 26-20362 and the other is Model 26-20232. I do realize you said the first one (20362) was not a good choice. I can't tell if they have the same agitator.

I have the Roper equivalent of this Kenmore washer and I have been very pleased with it.  

 

The dual action agitator works very well in moving and turning over the loads.  I seldom use the Deep Fill option which fills right to the very last row of holes in the tub, only for bulky items like a bedspread, comforter or blanket.  The Auto Sense fill adds an adequate amount of water to clean thoroughly, while not being wasteful with water.

 

 True, it may not last for 20 years, but then what really does now anyway? The price is right and the simplicity of the machine appeals to me.  Plus you can open the lid to add a forgotten item without having to go through unlocking the lid. The lid lock only engages after the wash portion of the cycle is complete.  I’d buy another one if need be and I’ve owned a few washers that I wouldn’t say the same thing about.

 

I just did the laundry this morning, three full, large loads, all washed, dried and folded in 3 hours and 15 mins using the Normal/Regular cycle, Auto Sense with hot water.  All thoroughly clean, rinsed and wrinkle and lint free.  I’ve owned 23 washing machines since 1972 and this little inexpensive washer is one of the best out of all of them.

So delighted to read your comments Eddie. I ordered this to be delivered on the 12th. Fingers crossed. My Dad has a previous/similar version of this machine and it has an express cycle. I don't see that on this machine and this is a feature that I would have liked but I think for the price and the extended warranty Costco offers plus the extra 2 years with the Costco Visa this is a good deal. I am going to have a lot of upcoming expenses that I have not had in a while.

The first machine has a low-profile impeller with an auger centerpost added.  The auger rotates both directions (up and down) with the impeller so doesn't do anything useful to roll the load.

The 2nd machine (Reply #9) has a traditional-type agitator with larger lower fins and a uni-directional auger that is a separate (but attached) piece and rotates only one direction to help pull clothes down.

The Normal/Regular cycle on Auto Sense would be the”Express” cycle.  I leave mine on this setting all the time and for most loads all I need to do is add the detergent and the clothes and press start.  It takes 34 mins flat using hot water and a spray rinse.

 

 I was leery of using this cycle when I first got the machine 2 years ago.  But once I used it I was a hooked.  Using Gain liquid believe it or not the spray rinse actually rinses thoroughly, no residual detergent at all.   I think that the lower water level combined with the HE detergent really concentrates the detergent and helps to clean thoroughly.

 

If you remove the lid lock and place it in the lid lock slot on top of the washer you can watch the action while leaving the lid open.  On the Deep Fill it rolls and turns over the load just like an old school TL from the 50’s thru the 80’s, very impressive.

 

I think you will be pleased.

Great Eddie re that cycle. Glad I finally made a decision. Was kinda agonizing over what to buy and how much (NOT) to spend. This will do nicely for now. I can always upgrade later. Have been renting for too many years..will soon be a homeowner again. Got to get my business built back up again and I thankfully have wonderful clients who are wanting to start traveling again. I will get to see their fur kids very soon. Pet sitting is a great job!
