my brand new only had it 10 days kenmore portable washer has decided not to drain or spin anymore if i un hook it from the sink and put the hose on the floor it will drain in a bucket so i know theres no clog so what might be the problem.

If that new, have Sears

come out and fix it. Maybe they sold you a lemon.
There is a list of things which can go wrong in the booklet, try going through that. Might be something simple.
As for what can cause the problem, well. A failed pump will prevent water draining. The machine won't spin above a certain water level in the tub.
Of course, a sock or something like that in the pump or hose will do it,too.
Or the drain hose has got a kink in it when raised to the sink level somewhere you wouldn't expect it. But since you say it drains ok when you lower the hose, I suspect a non-consumer failure and that is why you should call Sears right away. You might try to track the problem down a bit more: Will it spin on its own after you have drained it? Or no spin at all?
May just be a loose wiring harness...but then have the repair person check everything else in the machine. They don't unsnap themselves unless the machine got some very rough handling.

no spin at all, it will wash but when it's time to drain, rinse and spin nothing happens all the lights light up and the water level light blinks i called sears but they will not be her for another week.i was hoping to fix the problem so that i didn't have to go to the laundry mat

Lid Switch?

Sounds like it might be a lid switch problem. It wont advance in the cycle because it thinks the lid is raised.

MRB

i don't think it's the lid switch because the washer will not work if the lid is open and it does fill and wash when the lid is closed. unless there is a sensor that went bad. when it's time to switch to drain and spin you can here it click but then it just hums and after a few minutes all the lights light up if you push start it just starts washing all over again.

I may have the answer but am not sure maybe the experts can confirm this .

Does the machine have a separate drain pump that drains the washer.

My Haier top load washers that I play with have a separate drain pump that drains the tub before it spins.

update- repair man was here

my machine is all electronic , you can pick the wash cycle , the water level and the water temp. so the repair man got his computer to find out if there was a way to bypass to the spin cycle and there was and it worked, the computer system keeps unsetting itself for some reason. he reset it and everything worked great he said if it happens again i should take it back, thank god he should me how to reset it because it happened again, time to take it back.thank you for your insight on what the problems might have been.

sears

well what a joke! Thats all thats made anymore is garbage for big big money. Thats what we get for nafta. Do you have a used appliance store where you live? Go there after you read in consumeraffairs.com, check out sears......youll be sick to your stomache.

Buy cheap and used but at least tested and working by repairmen before sold. Our used place is like that anyways.

inquiring minds want to know: what is the reset code?

I am sorry about that - these portables are (at least for decades were) some of the very best from Whirlpool/Kenmore.
Maybe you should make a note of this on www.epinions.com.
Their advice is usually pretty well grounded and I follow it a lot - they aren't hysterically anti-anybody.
What led you to this machine? If you aren't tied to a TL, maybe a smaller FL would do just as well?
If you really need this format, there are billions of these portables running around as older versions. The ones from the 80's and early nineties I can personally attest to: they are good.
Thanks for the update, sorry it did not work out for you...but the reset code would be groovy. You never know when one of us might need it.
