Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

This may be a Kenmore thread but I have a ‘63 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII that’s all original with the exception of the belt and pump and hose that goes from the pump to the lint filter and it appears to works just fine and doesn’t make any strange sounds at all. Could be because it only has 42 years of actual use on it since it was in service from 1963 to 2005 and the elderly lady who owned my ‘63 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII set probably didn’t use it much at all before the house it was in ended up being sealed up until last year sometime

Since I didn't post about it in this thread already...

My 1992 Kenmore 70 series DD that still works perfectly to this day, all on original parts except for the agitator dogs (2014), and timer (2018).

Also my 1989 Lady Kenmore 27" electric dryer in almond. All original except for belt and drum rollers (2017), maintenance stuff basically. Oh, and yes, the lid switch is bypassed, as is pictured in #12 & #13. Mismatched set, yes, but they work great and do what we need them to do flawlessly.

Had to replace the drum rollers and belt on my Kenmore portable dryer along with the timer and power cord but I can’t really complain about making those repairs to something that’s over 35 years old. Interestingly enough my ‘63 Whirlpool dryer has no drum rollers and only has a bearing in the rear compared to the 1966 to the present Whirlpool and Kenmore 29” dryers.

Chet:

I'd say normally, about maybe 4-6 loads a week. But that will probably change when I get my other two machines in service.

Darren, these are a 1st generation of the center dial LKs. These had a separate switch for 2nd rinse and on/off of automatic advance from presoak/prewash to wash. The next version consolidated those two switches to one switch al-encompassing option in 1978 or 1979.

There was a model that had variable water level too at some point. I also vaguely remember there might have been a dryer version that had a knob for selecting wrinkle guard on or off. A feature I wish my 1986 LK dryer had as a differentiator between the 90 and 80 series.

These are 1976-7 machines, if you post the serial #s we can tell exactly.

Yes the clicking sound while agitating is normal on the first generation Dual-Action agitators, these washers even had a sticker in the lid that told the user that this was normal operation and not to be concerned.

Thank you ! The washer is practically a time capsule. Yes, this was I think a one off model. Not around too long. I think by 1975 Sears already had a replacement model with the controls moved down onto the panel minus the 2nd rinse knob. According to the Sears catalog, the upper balcony model shows up in the fall/winter of 1974. Love the wash action of the Penta Swirl. in my opinion, this agitator did not deserve the maligning it got.. It is quite an effective agitator even on full loads.
