This may be a long post but for some it might be worth it. Last summer we replaced our mega FL washer and dryer. At that time my only concern was how I would occasionally wash our king size down comforter. There are only two of us. Most of our loads are not that big so I resigned myself to the fact that a couple of times a year I would be making a trip to the laundromat or dry cleaner.

Well, I discovered something really cool that I have never seen before. Sleep Number has a comforter system designed for couples who have different needs when it comes to the weight of the down comforter they would use. You basically buy two halves of a comforter in whatever weight you want and then button them together in the middle. They also seem to be very well made.

While this is a great setup for those who want their own weight in down there is also a great side benefit. You can unbutton it and wash each half separately. We picked up one of these systems and I washed the two halves in my Miele washer one at a time. They came out beautifully. It took about 1 ½ hours on gentle to dry each half.

I’m really pleased with this system and thought I’d share for those who didn’t know this system existed. Maybe this is a fairly common thing I don’t know. I have never seen it before. So, if you have the same challenge we had, check it out. You can get them in Down and Down Alternative. We went with the down in the medium weight.
