kitchen progress

Dunno if any of you all remember the picture I sent out a few weeks ago of the progress on my Kitchen renovations. Well if you did, you may rememer the ugly beam that was in the middle of the ceiling that had two fluorescent lights attached to either side of it. Well, that beam isn't ugly anymore. It's uglyness is now covered with some sheets of plywood and makes for some nice, attractive indirect lighting shining over the top sides.

The project is still not quite finished. I need to put wood puddy in the screw holes and all the cracks and joints, then I'll paint the entire thing the same blue as the walls. The edge of the board will then have a piece of trim attached to it to cover up the rough edge. The trim will also continue around the rooms at about the point where you see the white paint meet the blue paint at the top edge. Now that I've patch the wall from where the removed wall met it, I'll be painting over that joint which you see directly underneath the newly installed beam cover.

My new Sputnik Chandlier has also come in the mail earlier this week! I'll hafta put some pictures up once it get it un-boxed and hung!

Slowly but surely, I'm "retro-izing" my kitchen, and returning it back to the era that the house was built in!

I can't wait to see that chandelier. My cousin and his wife just moved into an old row house that hasn't been touched since the '70s. That means built-in planters, parsley green carpet, and hanging glass globes on dimmer switches. No matter what the home makeover shows say, the old stuff is just cooler!

I'm going to have to post some updated pics as well. My progress is coming along slowly.

I can hardly wait to see the finished progress! It's so much fun bring a 50s home back to it's prime!
