Hi all,

I am new to this forum and think it's great that there are so many knowledgeable people on here with regard to vintage appliances. I bought a Kitchenaid KDC 17A dishwasher two years ago and must say its the best dishwasher I have ever owned.

A couple of weeks ago I went to start a load and a puff of black smoke came out of the door and the breaker tripped. I took the service panels off the machine and found that the wire going to the bimetal for the detergent door latch had chaffed on the chassis and created a short.

I redid those wires but the machine is not functioning correctly. Now when I press the button to do a load the machine will overflow. I then bought the service manual and parts catalog from this website. I isolated and tested the drain valve and it is working, but doesnt click open when the timer is going? I took the timer apart and found that the switch in the timer directly upstream of the detergent bimetal is shot.

Needless to say I think I may need a new timer. What other potential issues could it be? Does anyone know where I could get a timer for this machine?

Thanks in advance

-Dave Thompson

If by chance you can't find one I know of a place that rebuilds them, when I find the paperwork I'll send you the info if interested......Jim

try

searching for this Whirlpool part number: 4162940
Three different references I have show this as the current part#, replacing 108740, 109436 and 240502. There are two on eBay right now.
