a good question, iheartmaytag, I am glad you asked it.
Since the republicans have a stranglehold on politics around here, it is common for people active in that party to throw their weight around and to abuse their political ties. Despite being German, I grew up here and know the area quite well. Until this administration, republicans kept their power abuses down to the same modest level as the democrats. The last eight years, however, people with republican ties here have gone overboard in abuse.
You might, perhaps, have heard of the BLM scandal? If not, I shall be glad to send you the links to investigations being carried on by the justice department. Which is run by you republicans.
As for dear Ms. Thang, she pulled her contacts several weeks ago to find out whose cars were parked in front of 'her' property. This is illegal.
She then had the police and city officials go through our neighborhood looking for code violations. Couldn't get us on anything, but hit our neighbor and the 83 year old lady across the street hard. Both are facing work costing in the 10,000 to 20,000 dollar range now.
Yes, any citizen can theoretically call the city to complain. But democrats and other sane people try talking to their neighbors first, they don't have the senator's office call the cops and the city.
How I know? Well, just happen to have a friend who works for the city and they were more than happy to let us know.
So there you have it - so tell me, please, why you are always so all fired eager to disagree with me and to defend the republicans?

I am not defending the Republicans
It just appears that there are some on the board that have a persecution complex and feel that the evil Republicans are out to get them. There are times that people, none in particular Democrats, Republicans and Independents can come across with a valid point, however, the way that they present it is so abusive and abrasive that it pushes a resaonable person so far into their realm of rejection that they are unable to come to full agreement.
In the past week my country, my religion, and my belief system has been attacked. I have tried to insert a word of reason but as my mama always told me "You can't reason with the unreasonable" For this I have not responded to some of the issues in the interest of keeping world peace.
BTW--In one of your rants you referred to me as a Repbulician, I will set the record straight at this time. I have been called many thing in my lifetime. Some worse than others, but I have never, and I repeat never been called a Republican. If you venture to call me one again I will have to pee on your toliet seat, use the guest towels to mop the floor and wipe buggers on your curtains. Have I made my point abundently clear?

The Presentation in the link was doing the rounds here yesterday. It the subprime crisis for dummies essentially.
It would appear that in AU our banks are stable enough to survive, but it wont be without loses. The ecconomical growth is starting to slow here, but our Federal Bank has been consistantly putting up interest rates to curb inflation and discourage credit. Last month was the first rate cut in 7 years. Seemingly entirely the opposite of the US reserves way of dealing with things.
We've been watching the propped up US ecconomy in horror for 6 plus months now, is anyone in your government going to use the R word, or is the US still experiencing enough growth to pretend it isnt happening?

What is a quick frame of Washington Mutual doing between the Lehman Brothers report?
I believe the media gave a quick warning to those who has stock in WaMU for what lies ahead........
