Small Reliable Machines....

That's obviously the reason the more reliable brands of washing machine don't go over 8 or 9kg for their drum capacities.

Zanussi & Miele have a maximum size of 8kg & AEG have 9kg - in that standard size cabinet there just isn't enough room for anything more. I don't really know why anyone needs more than 8 or 9kg anyway. Even 7kg would be fine in our family.

I always thought LG were ok, albeit with too many gimmicks for me to take them 100% seriously, but the way that drum/tub is crammed inside the cabinet is just daft & i would'nt have expected LG to release a machine with poor balance control software either, given their electronics expertise in other fields. Disappointing.

I wouldn't be overly fussed about a Miele either though. They're fine when they're working but there seems to be a few too many people unhappy with the charges from Miele if they go wrong. I'd rather spend £500 on a 7kg AEG with 5 year warranty & know that if it dies after the warranty ends, it's only cost me £100 per year & hasn't got such a huge drum that compromises it's proper functioning. Plus being an AEG/Zanussi/Electrolux, it's unlikely to be subject to the poor quality control of a Indesit/Hotpoint or (even more likely) Hoover-Candy, despite costing a similar amount to some of their machines.

its always best to take out extra cover to cover your back, but i don't under how the samsung 12kg does not have the balancing problem and the drums are the same size

Just to put it into perspective, the rated load capacity on my Huebsch is 8 kg.

This is a 27" machine, it has a 3.3 cu.ft tub.

Now, if a machine built for light commercial use is built this way, what sort of compromises are being made in those 11/12 kg machines?
