Would an LG Steam washer flood while not in use with the door open, and then be ok to do a load? My kids came home to find the basement flooded. Both assumed it was the 8 month old LG Steam Washer. This has happened twice. I am not sure if it is the water softener drain hose, possibly clogged, or the washer. Both times the washer was not in use, and the door was left open. Could this machine cause a flood while not in use? (other than a broken hose) Could it also flood with such a large amount of water? This is leading me to supect that it might be the water softener. Any ideas?
Thanks

What do you mean by the basement being flooded? Was water flowing out of the open machine? Was water coming out from underneath the machine? I guess you are not turning off the faucets after you finish the laundry. Try doing that and see if the basement still floods. The fill valve could be leaking. A hose could be leaking.

LOL Maybe she is. But the intersting thing is that there is emough water soak the rug in the next room. She also says there is water in the machine, as she leaves the door open. Underneath the machine, and inside the pedestal drawer is all wet as well. This is all while the machine is "off", the door is left open, and that's it. What could cause this machine to back-fill, possible pump failure, valve, I dunno. All I know is that I haven't even paid for this machine yet! HELP

Hi
If the machine is switched off, the machine will not take in water therefore the only thing that could leak is the inlet valves, they can be faulty and fill when off, often can be cured by switching water pressure down.
good luck

Problem resolved

I spoke to a local repairman who asked if the machine was hooked up to a well, which it is. He said that sediment could be keeping the water valves from closing all the way. He said this happens alot with well water, and different brands of front loaders. He is ordering news valves (not sure which one) and will install them when he gets them. He said sometimes LG requests parts back, and if they see limescale buildup then they may not cover cost of the repair. Thanks for everyone's help. GO YANKEES!
