Now that most washing machines brands feature load-dependent wash time adjustment, even in low-end models, Miele seems to have decided to go back to 'fixed wash times' irrespective of the weight of the laundry. V Zug never went the 'wash time adjustment' route, and I always thought that was a serious minus of the otherwise superlative Swiss washers. Was VZug right in the first place? The problem with those sophisticated 'Optisense' or whatever systems is that if you have a small load of (heavily)stained laundry it still needs a full two hour plus cycle to get clean - not a'one hour something' wash programme worked out by the load-adjustment systems. What do you think?

IQsense vs OptiSense vs LoadSensor vs Mieles mengthautomatic

First of all, it is new to me that Miele stop load sensing. The latest Miele I used was baught a year ago and still did sensing.
Anyway, I used 4 systems that adjust the washtime activley.
First: Miele. It mainly had 4 time levels on Cottons 60°. A full, normal load with 1:59. Than, a full short load at 1:30ish, a half normal load at the same time range and a half short load at 59min. It was easy to trick as I just had to open the door to set it to the maximum time for the selected load.
Than, the famous OptiSense. It has just sensed a big load of bedding. It adjusts times up, but mostly down, way down. Sensing takes 14 min or more and has more than 5 steps. Tricking is nearly impossible, but sensing is quite accurate.
On, to the Panasonic LoadSensor. It just weights the load simmilar to LGs by measuring motor parameters during short spin of the dry load. It had 3 steps: full, half and small. Easy to trick: pull the load to the Front of the tun or add 2-4l of water on the load or lat it fill, turn it of, restart cycle. Gave you a full cycle time.
And, last but not least, IQsense. It combines OptiSense and the LoadSensor. It does the spin-sense-thing and OptiSense as a kind of backup system. It has 3 steps simmilar to the LoadSensor, but eventually adds time again after the "wet part" of the sensing is done.
After all, I liked the LoadSensor most. It was easy to trick and gave you the readjusted time within 30 sec.

I don't think US Whirlpool FL washers adjust wash time based on load. My washer adjusts wash time based on soil level selected. Different aspects of the cycle are adjusted based on the size of the load. For example, a large, heavy load will have a slightly different final spin sequence than a smaller, lighter load. Rinse water levels are higher for larger loads.

Mine adjusts time based on absorbency. For the very long cycles, there is an up to 20 minute long phase, during which the washer won't heat and tumbles slowly for the load to absorb water. Time is calculated once that phase is over. The quicker cycles just fill, calculate and heat. Remaining time is also calculated before each rinse fill and the final spin.

This is what happens in the new Mieles:
W1 (e.g Wkf 130) Cotton 60° 8 kg 1:59 4 kg 1:59
Cotton 40° 8 kg 2:39 4 kg 2:39
WDA (Classic, e,g WDA 110) Cotton 60° 8 kg 1:59 4kg 1:59
Cotton 40° 8 kg 2:29 4 kg 2:29
same times irrespective of load size
