Lol, I haven't been posting for a while, acctually I have been here, just that I havent posted anything.

Well the reason why I am posting this topic is becuase I need help on a confusing issue with a camcorder I own.

I own a Magnavox camcorder. The model number is:VR9143AV01. The serial number is:56825997. Manufactured Jan. 1988.

I lack the manual to the camcorder.

The issue with the camcorder is that when I try and shoot video it will only record sound, no video. Ive tried:

Using a different tape.
Using the UHF port instead of the video, audio ports.
Putting contact enhancer on the adapter port.
Making sure the camcorder is on "camera record".
Making sure the lens cap is off.
Making sure the tape is in.
Making sure that I am recording.
Yeah...
Cool.
Yep...

Well here is what I mean. When ever I want to record through the camera, not the VCR unit itself, it will play audio and record audio to the tape. But it wont display any video coming from the camcorder lens thingie itself. Even when I record.

Your IRIS is probably stuck.

If you cannot see the image through the viewfinder while in record mode, you may have a stuck IRIS motor. This was fairly common on those units. Put it in camera mode and gently TAP TAP TAP near the lens with the handle end of a screwdriver. You may see the pix getting brighter and brighter thru the viewfinder.... then SNAP! the pix may come on.
If that doesn't work - tap harder. I'm not kidding.
The oil in the iris "leaves" turns to glue over time and the thing gets stuck.
You can actually tap pretty HARD on these units without damaging the camcorder. Keep looking at the blank pix while you tap. You'll get a visual idea if you're on the right track.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! The camcorder works perfectly now!

I'll admit I had to ask my dad what an "IRIS" was.

Speaking of viewfinder, I'm wondering if I could find a replacement for this camcorder. Recently it broke off the mounting disk thingie. I am unable to find it at this time and so far, are unable to find a replacement for this camcorder.

Can't help on the viewfinder part.

I'm out of the TV REPAIR business nowadays so I cannot help on the viewfinder part. I do remember the disc thingies breaking.
Your best bet - go to Salvation Army or Goodwill and buy a junker camera and use the parts. Millions of those units were made under Magnavox,Panasonic, Quasar etc brand names.
Enjoy your camera!
