It's times like this that it's worth renting a truck or trailer and going for it! Eventually you may want to pick up a used SUV or pickup...you'll definitely save in the long run! -Cory

Check the CL appliance section again.  Usually there are ads in there for local delivery services.

That's a nice set of machines at an excellent price, particularly with a gas dryer.  I can't tell for sure from the picture but I think the washer is a standard capacity machine.

I emailed them to see if its still avalible. I live about an hour from Santa Barbara. I'll check into a delivery service b

Someone come pick me up and let's go get it. The delivery ppl I talked to want 70 bucks an hour min 3 hours. Geeze. On a 75 buck set!

I don't know what you're currently driving, but I would suggest trading it in on a pick-up or a van since considering your location you're likely to have to travel some distance in pursuit of vintage large appliances.

Actually my butt is on Feet lol. Car broke down some while ago. Sold it as is. Working a fair job. Single father of two. A 2 1/2 year old and a 2 month old. It's so hard being A single father and doing everything. I never seem to get a moment to myself or to enjoy a hobby anymore. Been very interested in collecting vintage washers and their matching pair. Really getting into it now as I've started work on my current washer, it was like a rush, a high that just set me off to find whatever vintage washer I could to restore and use. I'd set my current washer aside if I found a set from the 50s or so. I love all the photos here and everyone collections. Oh and the colors. Love that mint green, that harvest yellow and even he pink! I look at all your photos as an in awe and saw if only I had that one! Christmas is near and have most of the kids stuff purchased. Just put them up a tree yesterday. All I want for myself is my first vintage set! That's it. Lol.

I wish I had a lowes. I live in a really tiny town of a Walmart and basically that's all lol. I'm trying to see if one of my friends could take me. Without them wanting a huge chunk of change. I don't mind paying the gas. Seen a few more of these maytags, but just the washer. Some were really beat up for around 40 bucks.

Maytags show up in colors often enough.  Even if you find a set you like, such as those in Santa Barbara, you're going to find colored ones or designs with more bling tough to resist.  Start budgeting for a vehicle that can haul machines.  You've got it bad, and not having a means to transport anything ain't good.

From what you've stated, it seems like working on vintage machines would be both therapeutic and a good escape for you.  Single parenting is not easy and most assuredly exhausting with an infant and a toddler.  I hope you have help that covers for you some of the time.  You have a huge weight on your shoulders.  You may love the hell out of your kids, but you still owe it to yourself to come up with a respite plan.

I have a similar situation caring for my partner who had a massive stroke three years ago.  Tinkering around in my workshop is how I get "me" time when I'm stuck at home.  I can tell that tearing into a big machine or two would be the perfect indulgence for you, and you should understand that you're worth the expense.  If it costs you another $50 for gas if a friend can help you get those Maytags, that's still a good deal when the bottom line is maintaining your sanity.

We'll thank you for understanding and also I'm sorry for your partner. It would be a huge escape for me. I found a free maytag electric dryer. Problem is its 1 1/2 hours away. Geeze. I never get a break. Lol. Working on things or washers gives me a break, yes. Takes my mind off everything else for the time being. And I enjoy that, I never get enough of it. I shared a link of the dryer did they really come in this brown? I already talked to the guy and he said it doesn't have the 3 prong cord. So he doesn't know if it works. He said I could have it for scrap metal or just to have. And I wa like scrap metal? Why would anyone do that to a piece of history. Lol. I have a garage and with no car I imagine I can fit a few sets. I just want the pleasure of using them and making them sparkle like new.

I love it just by seeing it. The guy says its heavy. Just no way to get it once again. Hope someone in my town is getting rid of one of these sets someday soon!

The guy says its heavy

It weighs in at 150 pounds. Heavy by todays plastic laden and paper thin metal standards.

This brown was an original color correct ?

Yeppers. The "C" in CDE stands for Coppertone. This model has Electronic Moisture Control. No over dried/under dried clothes come out of these :)

Awe now you make me extra want it. Darn it. None of my "friends" are willing to drive that far for a "free" dryer. Hate to see it get scraped. What other colors did they come in!?

What other colors did they come in!?

Turquoise and Yellow (1966 and 1967 years only for the 06 series). Harvest Gold, Avocado Green, and Coppertone. 1965 was the last year for pink.

What Dan Said

I had one of those Electronic Control Maytag dryers but it was gas.  It gave up 15 years ago, but remains the best dryer I've ever owned.  If this site had existed back then I probably could have fixed it.  Its companion washer is probably still out there running somewhere.

Nag your friends.  Pay for the gas and lunch.

If I was to get the dryer. And I hooked it up and it didn't work. What are common problems. Or areas I'd need to look first?

Here's a very nice DG808 here in the Valley!

These are great dryers, and highly sought after by those who love Maytags. They're from the later half of the 1970's and some folks consider them to be a major improvement over the older Halo of Heat models. If you'd like to get this let me know and maybe we can work something out.

No, it isn't mine. But the Valley isn't far from me(Burbank actually sits on its Eastern end)and if the seller won't hold it, I can pick it up and hold it for you for a short period while you arrange transportation for it. This machine has the lighted control panel that everyone likes so much, and I believe it also has an electronic ignition, so there's no standing pilot light. All things considered it's a very ice machine.

Wow. You all in California have all the luck! Been looking for a DG808 for ages. Just scrapped a DE606 this weekend. Felt bad doing it, but only have so much space, and I couldn't give the damned thing away. Costs way too much to run an electric machine over here.

I'm so bummed. The guy emailed me back on this set and said he sold it a few days ago. fML. He didn't check his emails. That totally sucks. ;(
