Hi all,
I have a Maytag DE712 which has been in my family since the late seventies or early eighties. And has been functioning flawlessly since new.

However, recently, the plastic "air duct" at the front of the machine cracked and broke. Causing damage to the lint filter.

I purchased a new lint filter, and repaired the duct grille with a piece of wire mesh. But it's not good enough, and a lot of lint is leaking past and into the fan. Causing it to become clogged and require cleaning every few weeks.

I've searched on the internet for this part, but every listing comes up as NLA. My question is, does anyone on here know if there's another updated part number, or anywhere I can try to find this part.

Thank you in advance.

Your best bet is going to be finding a good used one. If there are any large used appliance operations in your area it’s possible they could have one. It’s very possible someone on this site has an extra lying around that they may be willing to let go of.

you can check ebay…..even if not on display, contact one of the sellers, as they may have stuff in stock, just not posted....

a good one I have found is Seneca River Trading.....888-577-0622

also, check CL for possible donor machines …..not a bad thing as you may gather other parts needed for the future....

Used part

I was afraid of hearing that. My concern is that another used part will be fatigued from age and fail soon after replacement. putting me back into this same situation.

I've got a couple of local appliance places I can try, but they're all closed due to the long holiday weekend.

If they don't have it, I'll try Seneca River place, or try contacting some eBay sellers like you mentioned.

While I'm in there replacing this, is there anything else I should replace while I'm at it? As far as I know, I'm the first person to take this machine apart since it left the factory. Other than the issue with this duct, it's never had a single problem, and even the lightbulb, drive belt, and electric bell still work. Which I've always been amused by.

Thanks again

Servicing a DE 712 dryer

I would also put a few drops of oil on the shaft for each rear roller and the idler pulley while you’re replacing the belt, also check the blower wheel if it’s the least bit loose on the motor shaft replace it.

Are used lint filter housing should not be much of a concern if you get a decent one and will outlast this dryer.

Try calling Bob’s appliance repair at 216-521-9353 he might have that lint filter housing if he doesn’t he’ll probably know who does.

Useful items/Bobs

Thanks for the input. I will replace the belt, and check the items you guys listed.

Bobs Appliance would be absolutely ideal. I literally live down the street from them, but completely forgot they existed.

This forum is fantastic.

Okay. I called SRT, but they said they're only accepting emails. So I emailed them.

Called Bob's and left a message with the part numbers. Hopefully I get a call back.

Bought an installed a new belt, and checked all the rollers and guides. They all seem to be in good condition and functioning fine.
