Hello everyone,
I have been registered to this website for a long time, though I seldomly posted.
I recently bought a second hand Mìele G7310 dishwasher from Facebook Marketplace. With it being only 200€ and 4 years old I knew it had to be mine.
I already had experience with a Mìele G5500SC and a G5830SCU model which both worked brilliantly. My main dishwasher is a Serie 6 Bosch built in 2021
I also quite like dishwashers and have owned/resold at least 8 of them in the past year or so. The oldest one I own is a REX (ZANUSSI) IP760N from 1993, a brilliant and solid machine

A couple of things to consider beforehand:
1. I NEVER rinse the dishes before loading the dishwasher. I'll typically use a spatula or a paper towel to remove solid residues and large amounts of sauce, then everything goes into the machine. It's called a dishWASHER, NOT a dishRINSER!
2. I tend to alternate different brands of detergent such as Somat (Pril in Italy), Svelto (P&G product), Fairy/Jar but all in tabs form. I do not like liquids as they can't remove tomato sauce/tea/coffee stains since their formulation does not contain any bleaching agents. I have also used Mìele's own PowerDisk in some tests
3. I will typically run long cycles, not short ones, as the machine usually runs overnight
4. I load the dishwasher quite a bit but making sure water can reach all the dishes

With this being said, I think this is the worst performing dishwasher I have ever used.

QuickPowerWash simply splashes tomato sauce and various residues on expresso cups
PowerWash does the same, albeit taking much longer (2h30) and using 23L of water + 1.4kWh of energy. For reference, this is how much water and energy my REX IP760N from 1993 uses, yet the latter washes perfectly
Auto washes decently, but runs for a long time (3 hours). Still, espresso cups on the shelf can't seem to come out clean
I have yet to try the "Extra Clean" option and Intensive, ECO, Glassware and Hygiene cycles

Thing is, the machine is VERY inconsistent with its wash results, so I have tried adding a 2nd interim rinse, with poor results. It can't remove stuck on pasta on a pot with a 2h+ cycle and it sometimes leaves residue on dishes
However, when it washes, it washes well
I think it's all down to poor programming and poor spray arms design: the upper spray arm can't reach the corners of the basket and the lower one runs for only 20 seconds at a time. Then, the machine switches to the center spray arm for 40 seconds, then upper for 20, and so on. Why? Dirtiest items are in the bottom basket

Anyone with a G7XXX dishwasher having the same problems as me? Maybe I'm at fault, but all other machines I have used coped well with this type of soiling.
With my Bosch, the Auto cycle is sufficient for most loads. With the REX, the 55°C Economy cycle suffices, but how can a 2020 machine that uses a LOT of water and energy for modern standards NOT wash well?

When entering programming mode I noticed I can set a country variant: mine is set to EU1, but EU2, JPN, CN, AUS and USA are other possible choices. Maybe I can set it to EU2 and it will wash better? Don't know, can someone explain to me what these settings do?

Sorry for the rant, I am sure I will receive precious help from the forum members.
Attached are some pictures of loads with before/afters.
Cheers

Country setting

Ciao E685X,

Sorry to hear that your Miele dishwasher isn't giving you good results. I'm in Australia and have the TOL G7919SCiXXL model which replaced a G68 which failed after 3 years.
I would leave the country setting as is. If you change it, it can alter the program positioning on the control panel.
I'm very happy with my dishwasher and the cleaning results have been excellent. A few things I have done with mine.
I've added the 2nd interim rinse and I use express mode as this bypasses the machine's load sensing and brings in always the maximum amount of water per fill. I combine this with extra clean for heavy loads or very full loads and the results are always perfect. The express mode also increases the wash temperature by 5 degrees to compensate for the shorter running time.
You said you use tabs and not liquid which is fine. For particularly dirty loads I add some powder or liquid 'Pril' to the prewash.

Thanks for your kind answers
I tried the machine on a full load yesterday evening: some corn flour based food (polenta) was present, the rest was scraped and left inside the machine from lunch till after dinner. I set the machine on an Intensive Cycle, with Express, AutoDos, 2nd interim rinse and EU2 setting

My model doesn't allow me to combine Intense Zone with Express

It seems to wash more on the lower rack in the Intense cycle, as it washed 55s B 27s C 27s T

Still, the pot I used to cook pasta with zucchini and bacon was still dirty, the polenta was removed from the bowl but redeposited on other items, espresso cups on the cup shelf were dirty on the inside
Oh, did I mention it used "only" 21L of water, 1.9kWh of energy and took 3 hours?

I can't really wrap my head around this

I will try later today with Automatic, Extra Clean, EU2, Fairy/Jar/Cascade tablet, 2nd interim rinse and see how it goes

But I am expecting poor results again!

Miele

I have read a few reviews of poor performance with newer Mieles. I understand the express option uses more water and overrides soil sensing, though I am not sure this is helping the situation. The ‘Auto’ or Sensor cycle should be pretty good, though should clean better with 2nd interim rinse and extra clean selected. If dishes are still dirty with Intensive, it would lead me to believe there could be an issue with spray arms, heater, or filters if you haven’t inspected them closely. Also, are these dishes actually hot after a cycle? 1.9 kWh seems like a lot and is potentially calculated based off of time the heater is running and not actual draw. Just a few thoughts, though not an expert on Mieles. Keep us updated.

It sounds to me like there is something wrong with your machine, either in the programming or something is blocked or being blocked somewhere. Maybe that's why the original owners were selling it rather than fixing it.

I have a G7100 SCi and while it isn't as good as a performer as others I've used, I don't have these issues and never had.

The pattern you described sounds like a Miele issue that's pretty known, but I can't say for sure of course.

The usage shouldn't be that high.
Even if the Auto cycle runs the water softener regeneration, mine never uses more than 16L max.
That would be prewash, wash, rinse, final rinse plus the regeneration.
Without, it's only 12L.
Even adding a second interim rinse, that would add up to no more than 15L or 19L respectively.

The previous Miele generations were known to have pressure switch issues, either ending up with heater faults displayed or on some G6xxx models water usages that go through the roof.
When the pressure switch trips for low level, on any heating step, the machine adds more water. That is ment to compensate if a bowl flips during wash so the machine can still heat.
That's why it also doesn't display a fault - it just thinks something flipped and compensates.
All you see is very long cycles, high water and energy usage and mediocre cleaning results.

To much water leads to too high dilution of detergent.
I do think the G7100 water level is usually VERY low and the filter design is in a way that to high levels basically cause flow over the filter.

The pressure switch replacement wouldn't be terribly expensive, but a bit involved.
I only run mine once a week, so I'll only be abled to show you the water level on the wash on Friday.
But checking the water level in the main wash is an easy first trouble shooting step. Should be fairly low.[this post was last edited: 11/13/2024-10:27]

Decided to just let it fill once really quick - the water level should at no point be significantly higher than this on any of the normal cycles. Just barely not covering all of the machine floor.

This was on the Normal 60C cycle which later became renamed to PowerWash.
Sensor, Eco, Intensive, PowerWash and Delicate all run the same load sensing algorithm and start with about the same amount of water. They add in small intervals during the first few minutes but usually you end up with water levels even lower than this during a normal main wash.
QuickPowerWash starts out with the max fill level straight away and does no adaptive load sensing - thus should always use close to 10L without any alterations, as the manual claims.

Thanks again for all your precious answers

The reading I get is from an energy meter I got which is actually pretty accurate as it considers the power factor as well, so I'd say it is realistic. The machine always shows less than the meter but I find the latter to be accurate with all my machines

Henene, thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my doubts. I can confirm the level is correct, there is no water pressure loss on the spray arms entrances, and that heating is constant. While in the first minute or so after filling the machine alternates the spray arms and tops up with a little water at a time, when the machine heats the pressure switch stays closed as the power draw is always constant in the heating phase. As such, there is nothing that could lead to to believe the pressure switch opens and the machine tops up.
I will upload a video of the machine washing with the door open on my YT channel and share the link, give me a few minutes

QuickPowerWash, IntenseZone, Fairy tablet

It washed quite well
There was little residue on the dishes - I scraped everything - and only had a couple spoons which were a bit dirtier than the rest of the load
A stainless steel pot used to boil vegetables came out with a little limescale around the boiling point
The pasta pot I scraped came out great
Couple of lightly soiled pans came out well
The only things I can complain about are one of the two spoons that still had a little piece of spinach on it and a bowl where some of the peanut skin deposited after coming off another bowl
Still, 1.7kWh and 13L of water is acceptable but not great as far as energy consumption goes

I will experiment more in the following days

Another day, another test

QuickPowerWash with EU1 country variant, Extra Clean, 2nd interim rinse, Fairy tablet and a half load

I FINALLY managed to get a clean load thoroughly, which was to be expected for a 2h20 1.6 kWh 21L of water cycle
I placed the espresso cups on the basket and not on the shelf
I can confirm the water level is and stays low throughout the cycle, like you can see in the picture attached

It just washes poorly! But I will try again with Auto in the next few days
I also want to try ECO + Express for lightly soiled stuff. I hope it will suffice, as it lasts 1h20
