This is a D&M dishwasher in Magic Chef's clothing... I do like that 'Total Magic Wash' button, though!

Red buttons indicate something important - is this extra heat, faster wash, or something exotic (LOL) ?
Total Magic Wash was the most intense. At the least the main wash and final rinse were heated to 155 degrees. Although would be nice if the 1st prewash was also heated to 155. Interior doesn't look too bad for its age of 1970 to 1976 when it was new.

Just having a dishwasher with a button labeled "total magic wash" would be worth the 50 bucks lol.

Total Magic Wash
Does heat the 1st, and 2nd wash and the final rinse to around 150F with the main pump running, of coerce with D&Ms quality I would not bet on being able to run the TMW cycle many times with out leaks or other failures, LOL.

Actually you don't want very hot water for the first wash/rinse. High temperatures will "cook" protein soils such as egg and milk making them more difficult to remove. Same as with laundry.
Today's modern enzyme dw detergents work well enough in warm or tap hot water (around 120F give or take), thus will help remove a good part of the soils before heated washes do their thing.
Have seen several variations of these Magic Chief (aka Tragic Chief) dishwashers both stand alone and built in on CL lately. If it were not that one just got shot of a DM designed Frigidaire (badged Kenmore) would strongly consider. Still again cannot complain since one did get >15 years out of our other unit. Cleaning quality however was another matter. Unless this design could produce yibble free dishes I wouldn't bother.
