A Magnavox Micromatic is a Collaro record changer.  In fact, Magnavox bought the Collaro company in 1960.

 

Magnavox never used Garrard at all.  Over the years they've used Seeburg, Webster-Chicago (Webcor), V-M, Collaro, and a very few BSR changers in some bottom-of-the-line sets in the 1970s/1980s.

The problem is probably just solidified grease and lubricants. This happens over time. Usually a good cleaning and the new application of the proper lubricants will solve most problems.

The main thing to remember is not to "help" any slow moving parts along.When you do this you up the chance you'll break something. And that something is usually a NLA part!
 
If it uses rubber friction drive wheels the rubber tends to harden with age and lose its friction. There are people making new wheels or tyres but it can be expensive.
 
The wheel that drives the turntable (the idler wheel) can get hard and cracked over time. I know of a place that you send the old idler wheel to and they can rerubber it. It will come back as good as new and last much longer than the original.

Terry's Rubber Rollers of Michigan will rerubber a idler wheel for about $35.00(USD). I know quite a number of people who have used him and they have been very pleased with the outcome.
 
When I first saw your request for Micromatic repair I was going to suggest watching ebay for a reasonably priced replacement. That one you picked up, sometimes called a "fish hook" changer, looks to be in new-like cosmetic shape. I did the same thing for the changer in the Concert Grand I found in Eugene Oregon ($40) and had shipped to me here in Southern California. The changer sits over a bed of hot vacuum tubes which caused the motor mounts to dry up. The long trip from Eugene to Salt Lake City to LA and then down to me sort of finished them off. Since I'm a purist I need to either switch mounts or the motor itself since the changer is slightly different.

If you check Magnavox stereos almost daily like me you will see that there are many of your same model for sale. Magnavox must have sold a ton of them, but yours looks more like walnut than the common fruitwood. It's very beautiful. You might want to check out the Yahoo Group "Magnavox Friends."
