This sad old Maytag is currently in service in my grandparents basement on Staten Island. Its been there all my life (i'm 29) and I can remember it from my childhood. I hope to rescue it someday and find her a mate, a matching dryer. Any ideas on an age? Its got to be from at least before 1977...

we had one too...

with that faux chrome like that and the "automatic"cover over the swithplates.instead of buttons for speeds. post a model number and a serial number for the experts here. i also think the center part of your timer dial was changed at some point. The original would not of been the clear acrylic. Ours, would of been purchased by my parents about c1966. Black agitator with the teal colored top and softner cup, and plastic mesh filter? Ours lasted until the late 70's. A good washer I remember it well. alr2903.

Careful, folks. The A106 was made at up to and during the beginning of the 08 series. Notice the water level buttons say "load" underneath. The knob is most likely original, and that is probably one of the last 106s. I bet it would clean up real nice! I had an A106 when I was a penniless student when I first moved to Boston, bought it in a yard sale for $50. My cousin has it now and guess what? Still works fine, no problems.

Definitely an A106

I have a picture of this model from a Maytag Brochure from 1969 (When I find it, I'll scan it for the members).

Maytag didn't change all of its models every year though, so conceivably it could be a 1968 or even a 1970. I had this model in an apartment I rented from 1980-84. Loved it but in the Winter the transmission took a couple of minutes to loosen up--agitation started painfully slowly and then revved up to normal. What a civilized machine it was though. I loved the shiny black agitator with the turquoise filter and softener top.

If I remember correctly, you had to purchase the lint filter and fabric softener disp. The A106 only came with the empty barrel black agitator. Am I right or just imagining things again?

Mid-seventies Maytag

Thinking this one is from the mid 1970's. The "faux" crystal timer knob dates it to that time.

more memories...

I'm pretty sure the agitator is all teal. There might be a dispenser cup in the agitator, but I don't recall. I remember that the capacity is pretty small. Next time I am over, I'll see what I can get pictures of and maybe wipe some of the crud off it.
