If the price is good and you have the space to store it, I'd go with your impulse to buy it and just give it to someone who needs one.
A little off topic, but from talking to non-washer people I get the feeling that there's an unserved market for these vintage machines: People who want to do laundry the way their parents & grandparents did.
1. Cycle - pick one of three
2. Temp - pick one of three
3. Load size - pick one of three
4. Clean lint filter.
I'm not talking about the masses who believe everything they're told. I'm talking about people who look at these new computerized machines and think, "We never had anything like this growing up but our clothes were always clean. Obviously it's marketing B.S. .... Oh well, I guess I have no choice but to go along with the gimmicks."
