Maytag A50 Question...

Is the A50 a spin-rinse washer or do you refill the wash-tub for another load? I've been spin-rinsing in it, but it doesn't seem to like it, motor bogs way down and doesn't really get the soap out. Anyone know this or have a manual?

With the Maytag twin-tub, it was better to spin out the wash-water then refill the tub with fresh water and have a deep rinse. It's not very good at spin-rinsing. I have opened the spinner and filled the spinner with water, enough to saturate the clothes, spin that water out and then repeated those steps until the water ran (mostly) clear from the drain hose but it takes a long time and seems to use far more water. You can re-use the wash water for several loads and then rinse them after all the washing is done to save water.

Thanks, I've been just refilling with a separate rinse cycle. The spin-rinse thing just doesn't work with this machine well, I think the spin motor isn't strong enough under initial load. I've also noticed that the pump on these works the motor pretty hard and just draining wash water puts considerable load on it, but it sure does pump, it will easily blow the hose off the sink. I thought I'd ask, because I know that some twin-tubs aren't designed for the spin rinsing, like the Danby DTT-420, don't try it on that machine. The pump is electric and if you fill the spin basket around half full, the spin basket will start ejecting water because the pump can't drain it fast enough.

Tim ... those little A50's are a very efficient washing machine, if you take the time to use it.

The "agitation" is very strong and washes clothes well; the impellers turn at 400 rpm's. The spin action is great, too; spinning at 2000 rpm's.

Greg is right; you want to wash as many loads as you wish in the wash water then drain the wash water and re-fill for rinsing.

only one rinse, and using the same water for each load?

Thats not gonna rinse very clearly.

When I do deep rinses using a spin dryer as extraction it needs between 2-4 deep rinses with fresh water per load for them to be rinsed to my satisfaction.

Rinsing...!!!

We all have our own ways of rinsing, all can be different and providing you get the end results, i.e. clean rinsed clothes then all are valid....deep rinses, shallow, rinsed in the tub, rinsed in the sink or spinner...all right and proper ways of finishing the laundry!!!

Tim what I sometimes do is only spin for 15secs on sudz return then stop & spray the load with water then spin away into the sink, sometimes if there are a load of suds under the spin can it acts like a Mr Whippy machine and that when you can sometimes hear the motor labour!! a drop of conditioner / vinegar will cure suds and aid rinsing etc...
