I'm looking at two gas Maytags on Craigslist, one has the old style door and one has the newer syle door with the plastic handle on the top that opens from the left, they are both almond with the black control panel so they are probably 80's models, they are both about the same price,aprox.60.00,the one with the newer style door has some buttons in the center of the console and the manuals with it, the smaller door model is an easier drive to get to,alot less traffic and closer, would it be worth the trouble (longer drive) to get the later model, is the capacity any larger? Thanks, Mark

As long as they are both Dependable care models, they should share most of their parts. Pics would be good. The reason I say that is some of the Norge/Magic Chef design dryers have a door with the handle in the upper part of the door and black consoles. RCD

The pics in the posting weren't very clear as far as the control panels,I haven't got that link thing figured out yet,I have the washer that matches and in the paperwork it was dated '85 and shows the dryer with the smaller door,so this dryer must be a little newer,I have a dependable care washer from the early 90's in all white,so this dryer falls somewhere in between, Iv'e just never seen that style door on this model.I'll try to post a pic of the dryer, here is my '85 washer with the same control panel. If you had to choose would you get the older Maytag design? Thanks, Mark

O.K., now I know what it is. Along the lines of a DE7600-DE9700 built around the early 90's. When you get right down to it, between the two you are looking at, they are the same dryers with the same drive system, capacity, suspension, electric components, etc. The newer one was Maytag trying to make a bigger opening door. Soon after that, they went to a design where it was reversible. That's the only difference: The size of the door opening. As I see it, your decision breaks down mostly to looks. Personally, I like the looks of the older dryer that would match the above pictured washer. Good luck!
