I need some advice. My neighbor is going to send this washer to the dump because it does not spin properly(makes a loud noise while spinning). What could possibly be wrong? Is it and easy fix? She said I can have it for Free if I wanted.
According to her, it is only 2 yrs old.
Please advise.

Gary

Those machines are notorious for leaking tub seals. There is also a ball bearing on top of the tranny...that is what is making it so noisy in spin. Can be fixed..but it is a major teardown to get to that noisy bearing. BTW they have ceased production of this machine, mainly because when Maytag bought Amana, they had too many washer 'platforms' already. Since this machine was the most problematic, it was the first to go.

Main Bearing

Just got off the phone with an appliance repairman. From what I told him, he thinks it is a main bearing problem...about a $250 repair job(since it sounds like a freight train when it goes into the spin cycle). Don't know if it is worth the effort.

Any other comments would be appreciated.

Since it has a plastic outer tub, you need the "brake tool" and upgrade kit in order to install the triple lip seal, which must be done anyway. Not that bad to do, but you do need the special tools.

...those awful Amanatags....

DO NOT HESITATE to get this POS to the dump immediately! After you've wasted lots of time and effort, you've still got a piece of j u n k. Dump it and don't look back. Mark

Maytag to the Dump

Thank you Mark and John for your comments. I really appreciate your honesty. I just thought a Maytag TL next to my Maytag Neptune would be great, but, to the dump it goes next week. Darn, two years and to the dump. How terribly sad!

If you want a Maytag TL, your best bet is to look for an 06 or 08 series center-dial 'Tag in nice shape and install it next to the Neptune. Much better having the REAL thing instead of this one! :)

Mini Wash In

Did a little test with the Unit...worked perfectly except the Freight train noise with the Spin cycle. Also by-passed the lid switch so it would function with the lid open. It is a 2 speed machine.....Finger Faucet..Just too bad they had so many problems with this design

just an observation...

The guts of that machine look almost identical to my 1998 Amana, save for the plastic outer tub. Whats with that?
What did Maytag change on this machine after they bought Amana?

2 years old and its trashed? WTF??? If I had a 2 year old washer and it was un-fixable I'd be pitching a b**CH fit at Maytag. That washer probably cost upwards of $450!

Whats all the stuff thats "splattered" inside the cabinet? Should it look like that after only 2 years?

If you want an 806..

If you want an 806, I have tons! I haven't had the chance to see which one's work and which ones don't but if you want one, I'll save it for you as soon as I figure it out. (should be in the new house by November if you can wait that long) Mark

GROSS!! That thing SCREAMS piece-of-s**t...look at all that RUST!!!

Shame after only 2 years it breaks. Steve (Gyrafoam) has had a similar experience with his Amanas (SAV design).
