The noise is a kind of clicking sound when it starts each wash rotation of the drum (the tumble).

I'm nor sure what is causing it. Sounds like maybe I need to pull it away from the wall and check out the belt and motor mounting. But it could be something more serious, like a motor issue.

Any ideas?

It's running a load right now, and seems to be doing OK. When it's done I'll probably take a closer look.

And of course after running for about 10 minutes the clicking sound has gone away.

LOL

my daily machine is a 4000 series and it does that too every so often. it never does it long enough to be able to pin point whats up. its been doing that for a few years but it runs just fine and nothing has failed, so im at a loss too.

.
Thanks, Chris.

I found it a bit alarming, since I don't recall ever hearing it before.

It's possible it was some sort of belt tensioner self-adjusting, or maybe some other bit of monitoring electro-mechanical monitoring device. Probably would have to take the machine away from the wall, take the rear panel off, and watch and listen. But then it probably won't happen. Figures.

Agreed it is probably the belt

Hi Rich, there is no tensioner but you can adjust the tension by moving the motor down a little bit.

If the belts a little bit loose it could make a funny noise as it starts each time under load, you can also replace the belt if you like that usually Illuminates the funny noises.

I’ve never seen a belt fail on a Neptune so I think most people just put up with the Funny noises.

John,

Thanks.

On this particular load I had tossed a thick cotton bath rug in with some generic clothing for a perm press cycle. The bath rug when wet probably resulted in more than usual imbalance and resulted in the clicking noise. And perhaps once the rest of the load (a mix of synthetics and cottons) got wetted down the load balance improved and that might explain the quieting.

Somewhere I have a service manual for the washer so I'll check the approved flex on the drive belt (if it's mentioned) and adjust accordingly.
