Not to hijck the thread, but...

How do Maytag Neptune type dryers compare to the old 80's Series type Kenmores? I want a Neptune dryer, to match my MAH5500AWW washer, but wonder how it will compare to my Kenmore with "soft heat" (heat gradually reduces throughout the cycle, dryer the clothes get, lower the heat gets.).

What do you guys think?

I like the models with the intelidry moisture monitor display. You can tell from how much blinking the display is doing to see how "wet" the clothes are. Less moisture, less blinking. I think it's more informative than the estimated time method of the LED and LCD versions of the dryer. It's a feature available across the Maytag Dryer line and not limited to the Neptune version of the dryer.

..Hmmmm. I saw this from the road on the side of someones house, and said, wow what a weird refrigerator. I live in the country, so there was a lot of overgrowth hindering my view, so I turned around to get a better look. Good thing I did because that fridge turned out to be a Neptune SuperStack in electric! The homeowner was mowing his lawn and must have been wondering why I circled back. I stopped and asked him if he was selling the Neptune, he said you can have it! It just needs a motherboard and new bearings. I told him I would be back tomorrow when I could get a truck.
Today, my nephew and I picked it up and dropped it in my driveway. Owner was very nice. There is also hurricane Issac bearing down on us and I thought if I was going to rescue it, the sooner the better. (cell phone picture)

..Not just on the commercial version. (which makes sense as the doors would probably be left open to show the washer was available for use and the active tub light of 10 watts would neglect any energy savings when you calculate all the machines times all of the hours they are open), but it's also missing on my LED residential model MAH5500 too.
I have the electric solenoid door lock with the back-up wax motor, perhaps there was a design change and the light was omitted. Hmmm, I'll have to remove the door lock mech when I do the bearings and seals to see if the extra wiring for the light is there.

The tub light was eliminated on later models.  My neighbor has a MAH6500 bought at the end of availability, it doesn't have a tub light.
