Maytag Suds Saver hookup question...

So my grandmother used to have a Maytag A107SA... When my mom bought the house and got a set of Neptunes, she gave them to a friend of mine who had just moved into a house.. and although he had a washer, he took it as a back-up. Fast forward a few years, and he needs the backup.

Grandma had a DuraTub next to the washer, and did use the suds saver. The DuraTub had two hookups on the side of it that pumped the water to and fro the DuraTub. The Maytag, of course has two hoses coming out of it...

My friend is wondering which hose is which, and what goes where... and can he possibly disconnect one of the hoses and plug it up..? He plans on draining it into a regular laundry tub.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

Hi Fred

The hose with the long neck or "U" upside-down is the suds hose, which sucks the water back into the tub; the shorter necked one is for the rinse water. If the machine has a DRAIN SUDS button, when pressed, all water, both wash&rinse will drain from the short hose. So you can curl up the suds hose and leave it behind the machine. If it does not have the button as is the case with some BOL's, just put both hoses in one tub, and you'll be fine; or you can secure a standpipe inside the sink drain, place the rinse hose in it, and the suds hose in the sink, and use the Suds-saver.

That does help... But both hoses end the same way; they were clamped onto the DuraTub.

The "sucking up hose" was built into the DuraTub; so there isn't one that hooks over the tub--so to speak.

You can simply remove the two screws at the bottom of the Maytag's front panel, pull the panel forward and down to remove it. Disconnect the hose coming from the back of the pump (in the front right corner) and connect one of the hoses going to the drain sink or standpipe to this and run it out of the machine. Now you've bypassed the suds-saver valve completely and ther will be no "extra" hoses to worry about. You can hook it back up anytime you want the suds saving feature again.
