Great washer.
My grandmother's very similar model 142 is still going strong. And so is her DG700 dryer.

Due to the interest being displayed, I feel that I am obligated to run a silent auction on our Maytag. Bidding will be accepted until 11:00 PM on Saturday evening, the 7th. Be advised that shipping and handling/packaging costs will be in addition to the accepted bid.
Please send us a message containing your bid along with your contact info if you wish to participate in the auction. For your reference, I currently have an offer of $200. You will be notified via e-mail as to the result of the matter on Saturday evening, worst case sometime on Easter Sunday.
The items included in the lot are the washer itself, the hoses that came in the tub along with the paperwork that we found that was associated with the washer.
As noted, the washer was still on the shipping crate base that it arrived here on Ash Wednesday 1964. There is no evidence that it has ever been hooked up or turned on, so to my knowledge, it is in the same condition as the day it was delived.

He just hit me up on my web site and said the bidding was up to $500.00. I think he is just trying to raise the price from "a good home" to whoever is going to pay the highest price. Wanting money for this machine is fine, but going about it in this manner is unacceptable. If he wants to auction it off, he should put it on eBay.

Oh God, this is turning out to be a disaster. The only thing that is unusual about this Maytag is that it has never been used. This A700 washer is quite common, we still see lots of them and it certainly is not worth $500. If it was a Kelvinator or a Philco sure, but not this. I would be very careful with this whole deal guys, I sounds like greed is now playing into all of this big time.

Then we have just the opposite of what I was talking about in the other thread...people who think they have a gold mine in a vintage appliance and try to take advantage of any potential buyers. I wouldn't pay half of what this guy is asking, and the whole 'silent auction' thing just screams "crooked".
I may be going out on a limb here, but remember too, that since it truly hasn't been used or powered on, the working condition remains unknown and I would venture to say it's being sold strictly "as-is".

I sent him an email,, We will see. I refernced this site and thread and gave him my whole little sales talk and my company cell number. If i was to talk him into selling it to me, that would be great. Oh well, i won't get my hopes up.. LoL Johnnys behind me rolling his eyes. Road Trip!

I would run the other direction from this guy - new/unused or not, it's still "just a Maytag" and there are still many out there that can be made like new with currently available parts. Don't be hoodwinked!

Austin, you brought up an excellent point. If this machine *HAS* been setting for 40 years unused, what will the condition of the seals, etc. actually be?
Greg, great statement about it still being 'just a Maytag.' Look at the beautiful older style pushbutton set you were able to restore. Then someone else on here posted a photo of two more. And look at how many Maytags have come up in my area in just the last 2 months.
Robert, I agree that everyone should be very careful in dealing with someone who pulls a stunt like this. Buy through another club member or bid on eBay where the buyer has some protection.
Greensburg is in my back yard. And there are/were *LOTS* of Maytag dealers in this area. The only good thing about this is the box of Tide *IF* it is in fact included with this washer. If the seller hits my site again, I'll still ignore him. I don't play games like this.
