Miele W 1918 flashing light?

I'm hoping someone here can offer me some help with my machine. When I went to retreive my laundry it was not quite done and the light beside rinse 1/2 was flashing. I turned the programme switch back up to "off" and waited for the lights to cycle down to end. I waited a few minutes and then tried starting the programme from the start. While it was filling, the same light (rinse 1/2) started flashing again.

Again I turned the programme to "off". I tried to just spin the load...nothing, and again the flashing light.

Any ideas?

Hi, according with the service manual for your machine you have a problem with the drum drive. Does the drum turn before the blinking light turns on? Did you try the spin only cicle?If the drum does not turn at all then you are likely to have a problem with the main electronic board (usually located behind the front panel) or the motor (not usual...). If the motor does turn even briefly then you have a problem with the tacho generator located on one side of the motor and driving the main board. Usually you can fix it checking for dry joints and resoldering with fresh tin all the components on the electronic board. If the motor doesn't turn, the problem is likely to be a defective relay on the main board. I'd try to replace all of them before calling the service center which usually will change all the board.Do not hesitate to write back if you need further help...

almost forgot...
on the main board there also is a fuse (usually a radial fuse. it looks like a small black cylinfrical capacitor)that blows if one of the relays fails. remember to check it too!

you seem to have a lot more knowledge than I do! I will get to it this week. The drum does not turn at all. So then, I guess I should start with the main board...perhaps that black fuse. How would I know if the fuse is blown?

Hi Guy,
to know if a fuse is blown or not you have to remove it from the board and check it with an ohmmeter. You should also have a solder gun to do the job. If you have no such things you should ask a friend who is aware how to properly use a solder gun and an ohmmeter and who owns such things or go to a shop that repairs television sets. It's a simple job but if you don't know how do it you can seriously damage the electronic board. Usually the motor relay get stuck and the fuse trips. Replacing these low cost parts should give your wonderful machine many many years of trouble free work. Blomberg was originally a brand owned by Thomson Brandt. Now it is a Beko brand.
