In todays photo, the Tide for Norge ad mentions Miss Weis, but shows 2 women, I'm not sure which is Joy? She obviously had a big position at Norge. First I thought it was the woman in chartreuse, but the other looks like she is wearing a lab coat????

I wonder if she really existed or if she was created for the purposes of the ad?

A&P's store brand used to be called Ann Page. (It's now called America's Choice.) I had an aunt whose married name was Ann Page and that use to really confuse me when I was a kid!

Joy is real

Joy is real. She is the gal in green, NOT the gal in the lab coat.
She still is a powerful consultant in the appliance industry to this day. A completely classy and smart lady. She and I cross paths from time to time.

you mean, Mrs. Joy Weis Daniel!!

Evidently she is a 1959 graduate of OSU in Home Economics. I found an industry newletter in which she was honored by some microwave energy industry group, and there is a resemblance to the woman in the ad (ad is probably 38-40 years old).

Also found an OSU newsletter about her:

ehe.osu.edu/news/archive/newsletters/focus/autumn2003/focus_fall2003_p04-06.pdf - (see page 3)

ps

I would have guessed the woman in the lab coat as well. The way it's posed, it looks like the lady in the lab coat is the "company expert" and the woman in chartreuse is the "housewife picked at random to help test the product".

My Faith in Advertising is restored

So Joy has had an active life, from Norge to Sharp Microwaves. Maybe there should be a AW Hall of Fame? I bet she has stories to tell about appliances...
