I used to use Instant Fels Naptha when I bought my first washer in 1972, a used Maytag Model J wringer washer for $35.00 from the Salvation Army Thrift Store. It was a really great cleaning laundry soap, rinsed out easily and left the clothes really soft, especially since I line dried my laundry most of the time. I wish they still sold it.

Other members had different experiences with Fels, particularly with leaving clothes gray...as you'd expect with a soap in anything but soft water.

My grandparents had the exact same Texaco hydrometer, thermometer, hygrometer on the wall above my grandpa's recliner for as long as I can remember. I always wondered why it said Texaco on the face. Now I know!
