Still one of the best things on the marke. It really does work well. My white clothes are "line ready" when I use Mrs. Stewarts. I am not ashamed at all to hang my laundry on the line. A great product that all people should consider using.

I have only had limited success with Mrs.Stewarts. Perhaps there is some special "technique" I have yet to discover.

NOTHING I have ever found worked as well as LaFrance.
I really miss it.

The Mexican detergent "Focca" has a good bit of bluing in it and I like to use it for my colored stuff although it would certainly do whites very well. Either way it cleans VERY well, and leaves just a tiny tinge of blue to perk up the appearance of the garments just a bit.

Actually prefer cube (powdered)bluing such as vintage Reckitt's or Bleachette.

Neither will stain if spots are caught before laundry dries and are washed away. OTHO Mrs. Stewarts and Bluette can and will stain unless highly diluted, and those spots can be hard to shift.

Also excess powdered bluing is easily removed by weak acid bath, where as only soaking in ammonia will remove Mrs. Stewart's bluing, and that isn't even a sure method.

Mrs. Stewart's like other liquid bluings were also sold as ink for writing and marking linens. That gives you an idea of how well it can stain.

Find either Bluette or Mrs. Stewart's are best in top loading washing machines, or any thing where a large tub is used. Both aren't really suited to front loaders, but it can be done with care and at one's own peril. OTHO the powdered blue seems to work fine in front loaders, again if properly dosed and used.

LaFrance

Years ago I used to use LaFrance Bleach with Bluing in every load I did, plus the normal other stuff, Tide, Cheer, Bold, etc. And I also used Final Touch, Downey, etc., I'm talking about the 80's, but I LOVED LAFRANCE, it made the water blue which made me think something was happening, at least!!!!

WHERE IS THAT STUFF--I WANT IT BACK!!!

found Mrs. Stewarts...

in a local grocery store and decided to give it a try. I use it in the Fridgette TT with a full tub of water to assure full dilution. I've had good luck with it doing my dress whites and it seems to have some staying power for a wash or two.

One should not blue laundry at every wash, otherwise one will end up with a visable blue tint to the wash.

Bluing also works by making white laundry a bit "dull" and grey, too much bluing will certianly make for a greyer wash than what one started out with.

Remember unlike OBA's bluings do not cause fabrics to reflect part of the light spectrum, but cancel out the yellow with a slight tint of blue.
