But try doing that without the phosphates, I'm curious at how the machine performs with standard detergent.

VERY Nice!

I know I get similar, great results with the Finish Powerball tabs. I don't need to add TSP or STPP in my water (it's very soft). My dishwasher BOL GE portable, and everything washes beautifully with the Finish, even stuff with baked on food residue. If I try the same test with standard gel, results are okay for most dishes, but not as sparkling.

Wow Amazing performance from your Dishwasher. It cleaned the pants off of those dishes. I have Finish PB tabs but have never tried them with additional phosphates...maybe I will.

Still your DW did a great job. How long did the cycle last?

I have a similar model.  Wtih the same optio0n and heated dry, mine would run about 2:15 to 2:23 minutes.  My water heater is set between 115 and 120.

Water heater: 120 degrees F. Cycle time: typically 2:15, never more than 2:45. We have really hard water so I've always used a booster (first Glass Magic [expensive, still contains phosphates], then Lemi Shine [ditto, no phosphates], now TSP [cheap in a 4½ pound box from Home Depot]).

Next time I broil Brats in the CorningWare, I'll try a load with just a Powerball tab.

B) You get it at Home Depot in a 4 1/2 pound box? Really?

C) Finish still has phosphates? I thought all companies had to take phosphates out?

I use Cascade Complete powder with STPP and it does a good job.......But no as good as Cascade WITH phosphates did.

I always uses pots/pans on my DW. I think it rinses twice instead of once and runs about 90 min's with no heat dry. I used to use heat dry but it seems like if I open the door just after they finish to let the steam out, the dishes are dry in 15 min's

No, trisodium phosphate (TSP).

Yes.

Finish Glass Magic still contains phosphates. The Powerball Tabs in the opaque individual wrappers are phosphate-free. You can still find residual stock of the phosphate formula. The individual tabs will be in a clear wrapper.

TSP is very different from TSPP. The differences have been discussed time and time again. Do a search and see. I would not use TSP in the laundry or in the dishwasher.

TSP = TriSodium Phosphate. Creates a precipitate when reacting to minerals in water. Used as a general-purpose outdoor cleaner, such as for washing driveways or walls for paint prep.

STPP = Sodium TriPolyPhosphate (also STP Sodium TriPhosphate). It does not create a precipitate, so is suitable for use as a laundry and dishwashing booster. It's also available in food-grade form for use as a food additive/preservative (retains moisture).

Somewhat minor difference in chemical name .... large difference in chemical properties.
