Well cared

for home! I bet the wood floors are in excellent shape if the closet floor looks that good.
Lots of potential there.
I went to a home-a-rama yesterday and toured 8 new homes. All the colors were greys and whites. Even the furnishings.
Are you kidding me? This state looks like that 9 months of the year.

That was common here in the Midwest. Most common is baseboard style registers, sidewall registers are less common but I've seen them too, sometimes the house will have a combo of both. One time I was in a house in KC that had registers in the upper sidewall, and the ductwork was still in the basement, both levels were like this. There was a main trunk that ran to the attic and then the branches would drop down the wall to each room for upstairs. This was done in the 1950s which would've made it a rather odd setup for the time. Worked great for A/C though, and it sure does get hot in KC.

I agree. Very nice! It's the kind of house I'd be happy to move into as is and make changes later. Personally, I like the built-in cabinetry.

The registers in the wall is not the most common set-up in New England, but you see it often enough that it doesn't seem weird. I do have a vague recollection of there frequently being one air return register that's ill-placed for heating and another ill-placed for a/c. Problem solved by covering it:-)

I like the basement fireplace. Are those registers in the ceiling?

Best of luck!

Jim

hvac vents:

The long ones are air returns. The floor for heat, the one in the upper wall for a/c as hot air rises, cold air drops.
New England homes have often hot water heat. I suspect most oil burners are out of service by now replaced by gas.
