I rescued this poor dead giant fridge on ebay.  The cabinet has a lot of porcelain damage, but I was after the 80 fin monitor top with the double evaporators!

I would like to repaint this top and use it on a two door cabinet I have already.  This was listed as not working, but it runs and cools just fine.  It's just amazing it does after 85 years.

score!

As you said yesterday, "It liked the car ride." Whatcha gonna do with the cabinet? It weighs a ton, doesn't it?

That is my favorite style of monitor top with the nickel plated cabinet trim and hasps that give it a food locker look.

I had a double door about a year newer with those same dual evaporators.  I could sit for a year or longer without running (it was a beastly thing and lived in the garage) but would operate fine when fired up, even before I located a replacement oil heater for it.

Nice score Travis!

Keith,

As much as it bothers me, I think the cabinet is going to be scrapped.  I don't have enough double evaporator tops to sell the cabinet with one.  I also won't have 62" of wall space in my kitchen for it.

Ben,

The shipper, who I have used before, moved it with a pallet jack.  The cabinet likely weighs 350 and the top another 300.  I have a lift to pull the top off.

Put it out in the garage, use it as a paint locker.

If there was some place in the house for it, it would make a cool linen closet.

If someone wants this cabinet make me an offer and come get it.  If not, I'll save the shelves, hinges and latches.  The top will be appropriate for a 42" cabinet that will fit in my kitchen.

Thanks guys!

I was advised by another friend that the top would run less and possibly last longer on my smaller cabinet. I measured again. I don't have the space for it.

I'll find someone to soda blast it and repaint the top.

Pulled the top today

Three of us and a lift pulled the top today off the cabinet.  Keith is planning to reuse the cabinet.
