I am now the owner of the 1963 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII that was for sale in San Diego for over a year. I believe it’s a Imperial Mark XII since it says Mark XII on the control panel of the timer. Looked over everything on this machine and did a couple of quick test cycles and it works! The bearing will need replacing in the future but everything seems to be working as it should with no strange sounds or noises.

Thanks Bob! Everything seems to work just fine on this washer and in case if anyone is wondering the timer is just like a Lady Kenmore washer from that era, you select which cycle you want turn the timer until it stops and push to start. When the manual button is pressed in it allows you to set the timer anywhere without having to chose one of the cycle buttons.

Beautiful Pair Sean

We have the same set one year newer in white with Suds-Miser, and the dryer is gas with a window.

By 1964 WP had added the Magic-Clean filter and a 3 speed motor, they had also beefed up the transmission and went to a 1/2 HP motor in 1964.

I just wish ours were the cool color yours are.

I took our washer all apart for rebuilding a few years ago and it needs to be reassembled, hopefully in the next year or so we are going to do another WP-KM BD rebuild-A-thon where we are going th rebuild 10-20 BD washers over a week or so.

My family....

...had this set in white but it was the next model down from MKVII. Lighted portion looked the same as these but the cycle selection was manual and just 5 pushbuttons for temperature selection on both the washer and dryer.

I think this was rebuilt at some point since it has a newer pump, and the belt looks fairly new as well and it doesn’t make any strange or funky sounds and it goes through all the cycles like it should. When I picked them up from Strictlybojack on Saturday he said they were used all the way until 2005, and the 1962 RCA Whirlpool LAJ70 my friend Tyler acquired was in service from 1962 to all the way up to 2014 and that Whirlpool has seen more use than my new Whirlpool washer from 1963

Thanks Vacorator! Will try to get phots of the matching dryer later this week. Won’t be able to use it since the blower belt is toast and the drum belt will more than likely will need to be replaced but that shouldn’t be too difficult to find since it’s the same drum belt as the current Whirlpool 29” dryers

Mine is identical to the one in Who’s Minding The Store except that Whirlpool dryer is more than likely is a gas model since it has the lower access panel on it

It's really nice Sean. Whirlpool used that box on the side with parallel rows of buttons for a few years before moving the buttons to one long roll on top. Akronman has one from around your vintage, too. I think Greg has one as well. Mark XII's are mazing washing machines.

I thought this Whirlpool washer when Strictlybojack created a thread about it a year ago was a Imperial model but turns out it’s a Imperial Mark XII since it says Mark XII on the control panel of the timer. The 3 speed Mark XII machines came out in 1964 and 1965 I believe since the Lady Kenmore washers in 1965 had a 3 speed motor and the Mark XII was the Whirlpool version of the Lady Kenmore in 1965

Yes, I knew yours was a Mark XII, like Gansky's, Akronman's & mine, each one from a different year. I don't know the chronology. Glenn does. I believe that Greg said mine is a 66; it has 3 speeds: last button on the right gives the lowest speed. Would have preferred the Waterfall Magic Mix Filter to the Magic Clean, but that's life. Good luck with your new friend, Mark, and good on the Bojack Man for finding another rare vintage treasure.

My friend Richard (speedqueen) has a 1965 RCA Whirlpool Imperial dryer but I think his 1965 Whirlpool Imperial dryer at one point in time was paired up with a Mark XII washer but the washer it was paired up with is long gone unfortunately. I believe I am the first to have a 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII since I’ve seen no others in the archives

Both Lady Kenmore and WP Imperial Mark 12 came out with 3 speed motors with their 1964 models.

Hi Sean, the drum belt you need for the matching dryer is not the same as 1966 and later WP built dryers, it is both a different length and profile. I do have new drum belts for this dryer if you want, get in touch.

What's the model number of the dryer?

It may be an Imperial instead of an Imperial Mark XII ... being that it doesn't state so on the console like the washer.

It doesn't have thermostatic auto-dry (aka Moisture Minder) ... which may not have yet been available at that time, or may have been a step-up feature for the Mark XII.
