So sorry about your baby.
It is the hardest thing that you can go throuh in your life.
He was such a beautiful animal.
I have been where you are. It will get easier as time goes by. You will never forget however. And I am sure that you would not want to.
There are times that I look at pictures of animals that I lost 20 years ago, and it actually takes my breath away because I loved them so much. They are truly gifts from God so we could have an unconditional friend. And they love you no matter what. This is what makes it so terribly hard.
My 22 year old cat is sitting in my lap as I type this, and I gave him a hug and a kiss on his head.
Just think of the good times. That is what Oliver would what you to do.

What a beautiful animal, Neil. I can see his love for you in his eyes.

I like to think that when we leave this world, the LORD will allow us to be with our four-legged family members as well as with our other family members.

One day at Heaven's gate you will see Oli waiting for you and run to greet you with a joyous bark and wagging tail to welcome you home.

Until that day, take comfort in knowing that Oli's life was much richer for having been with you and well as your life being touched by him.

He was just full of love. You can tell by the picture of him. He was totalled committed to you. I have had to go through this myself and it's never easy. I hug my three every day many times through out the day. I know they will not be with me forever here on earth but after we will all be together again. My last one passed over about 12 years ago. I swear he is still in the house. When I am working downstairs in my office I hear him jump off of the bed, in the master bedroom which is right over me. He walks down the hall checks all the bedrooms and baths then jumps back on the bed. I have 3 dogs now and they all look up at the ceiling when he walks around so I know it's not just my imagination. So don't think he is gone completely, he may just surprise you one of these days. Keep alert and you never know. Keep the faith and there is always another little guy looking for your love and attention. Its hard but sometimes it helps. Take care.

Damn. That's awful. How do you communicate to a beloved pet that the surgery and painful treatment are attempts to make him or her feel better? And, animals are so damn perceptive that they know beforehand they are going to be put down. How do you deal with your bestest companion knowing you are going to put him or her down? If they were not so sick, would they run away or do they know it's for relief from suffering and are grateful? I have read that dogs do not think ahead, but don't really buy that because they think and have emotions and miss us when we are away and expect us to return and that's thinking ahead, right? I have also read and believe that dogs' souls are unconditional love so I guess when you are able, you have to find another loving soul to receive your love and give you love.

While the Dr. Doolittle movies do not touch on this area, I would so love to be able to understand what animals are wanting to communicate to us. Maybe that's the miracle waiting on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

I am very sorry for your loss. I hope it helps a little that we have you in our thoughts and prayers for comfort. Tom
