My trusty 45-year-old Maytag A608 has a new leak!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I'm really sorry to keep at this, and very much appreciate everyone's generosity, but things are confusing to an outsider, especially with people using different terminology.

I gather I could update to the newer style sleeve (which I think some call the valve assembly) but don't really have to as long as I clean it and replace what is here called the sock, which I take to be what the business calls the valve. Does that rubber valve come with a plastic nozzle inside? Or is the nozzle a separate part, in which case what's its number? I could try to clean the old nozzle, but if it isn't too expensive it might make sense to replace it as well as the valve.

And yes, good idea to have new clamps at the ready.

Might be possible to rig something...

First, I would soak the hose and the other parts in a tub of vinegar, maybe even run them through the dishwasher afterwards.  All this to remove the crust.  Take the assembly to an auto parts store and see if there are any heater hoses that are similar to what you have.  If they are friendly they might let you look at the ones in back.  You might find something that may be able to fit.  You might look in the plumbing department of home depot/Lowes too.  This is if you cannot get the actual part, Whirlpool has been stingy about parts lately.

My Maytag parts list for the A608 shows:
nozzle 213015
valve 213016
sleeve 213057
hose 213013
tube with seal 206154
seal by itself 215120

I gather the valve 216201 can work where the 213016 is called for.

Well, I bought the full injector assembly (Thanks, John!) and installed the pieces. Sorry to report, the leaking continues. I believe during fill I see water oozing from the supply end of the valve, as though the flow is being partially blocked, and then dripping out of the plastic sleeve and down to the floor of the washer. I've disassembled and reinstalled everything multiple times; pretty sure I'm doing things right. So three questions:

1. On the most recent try, I noticed that the rubber valve is 1/2" longer than the previous valve. It's also 1/2" longer than the plastic nozzle, which is the same length as the old nozzle and valve. Is this OK? Do I need a different valve that might be the right length, or should I trim the rubber to match the plastic that goes inside it?

2. The only thing I didn't replace is the plastic sleeve, because it's going to be a killer to get the old one off. (Rust. Hard to reach.) The new and old seem to match in the part that holds the valve. But is it possible that the old plastic is worn in some way that would interfere with whatever the whole thing is supposed to accomplish?

3. The lip of the valve is very slightly larger in diameter than the old, making it a little tough to fit inside the supply hose, but I don't think it's cramping up in there. Emphasis on "think".

I've watched Fix.com's excellent Maytag injector installation videos on YouTube. Several people have left comments saying they also have continuing leaks after installing new parts, so it's nice to know I have company. Fix.com doesn't appear to respond to questions on YouTube, so I'm at a loss.

Any ideas?
