I've always been a huge Beatles fan, and one of my favorites is Lennon's "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away", a song he supposedly wrote about their manager, Brian Epstein:

Anyway, the video for the song was part of their film "Help!", which supposedly was filmed inside Lennon's rented flat in London. For some reason the furnishings of this flat have stuck with me for 40 years. I love everything about it, from the pink designs in the front door glass to the couch and bookcase, and bed inside the basement (or whatever that depression is in the middle of the room, where Ringo is laying).

20 seconds into the video, we see a blue wall on the far side of the flat (behind where Lennon is sitting). It appears to have something like a change machine, vending machine, and coffee machine etc installed into it.

Anyone happen to know what those machines are? Am I missing something common about flats in England?

Thanks in advance!

They are vending machines. Just props to make the place look uber cool. Now those chairs are really nice. Before I watched the video my first thought was it was an English power meter from the basement you were talking about because back then many houses in the UK had actual meters that required you to put coins in like a parking meter to keep the electricity running in the house.. when the time was up the pwoer went out. My great aunts house in Manchester had one.

Thanks Pete.

I stumbled on this earlier today. It's been almost 28 years since John passed away, looks like Paul is still grieving.

This was recorded in March '07 at Amoeba Records in Hollywood:
