disposer hookup

I see you have a "hard-wired" disposal, too. L.A. used to require that dishwashers and disposers be "hard-wired" using armored cable. They have since relented and allow outlets to be installed under the sink and disposers and dishwashers to be plugged in like any other appliance.

hard wired disposal...

UGH I hate that armored cable to the disposal...its very unforgiving. When installing the present ISE disposer, I had to shorten the cable twice, as it kept pushing the disposal and maing it not level.
The ISE I currently have replaced the original builders disposal, a low end Tappan, vintage 1973. It still worked, but just barely, there were actually places where the shredder teeth were completely worn away....

Just as well to replace the old one even it it still ran-the worn shredders would clog your plumbing because the machine no longer shreds the waste fine enough to pass thru your waste pipes.Armored cable was a pain-used to deal with it as well-besides you cutting it-it would also cut you on the metal spiral jacket.

old disposal

The Old Tappan worked ok, but yes I was worried about it clogging the drain, it was also very slow in chewing, and was missing its splash guard and stopper. My house was built in 1972, and I replaced the Tappan in 2002. 30 years for a low-end builder disposal is impressive. I also learned it was "ready to go" when I removed it, that is the upper aluminum section literally crumbled when I started loosening the mounting bolts.
A year later I found the identical model on ebay, unused in the box...its on display downstairs with the Hoovers..
