I've used Finish before, wasn't that too impressed with them. They actually did the job, I too didn't cared about the scent. The ones I had leaked from the pods as they were a mess inside the container. And last time I used a pod, the Quantum kind, surprisingly it made my glassware cloudy as I have soft water. But unlike Cascade, it definitely didn't create excessive suds. Probably the same as Kirkland, actually one of the other reasons I'm not interested in using pods anymore is because I'm now using Kirkland pods that sat in storage for a while and they smell stale which I don't like. Still cleans fine but I've never had that happened before with Cascade pods or even the liquid that also sat for a while.

I might be the odd one out, but it’s horrible. Not to mention way too strong. Lemon is much better IMHO.

I had to switch back to Cascade Complete Powder mostly but use Finish Quantum for heavy soil. My new Seasons dishwasher foams way too much with the Platinum Pacs.

Oh heck no the Mountain is so good. It smells like the air during a thunderstorm, it’s so earthy with that general cascade pac scent. But I can see how someone wouldn’t like it. The lemon is good too that’s my second go to

I'm done with Cascade. This is why I switched to Finish Ultimate and Finish Jet Dry to stay away from the excess foaming. It shouldn't happen in a dishwasher. EVER! The Finish Ultimate tabs in the black and gold container smell nice though. I do miss the Finish Jet Dry green apple scent. I wish they still sold it. The Platinum Pacs are very sudsy, especially when the water is cooler and/or not a lot of food soil is present.  However I have found that Platinum Pacs perform extremely well despite the suds causing cavitation and slowing down the spray in some machines.  They're one of the best detergents out there.  The suds don't present a problem or hamper cleaning in most machines I've tried, including modern Bosch/Miele/KA, KDS-18, Maytag reverse rack, GE 2800.  In fact, the sudsing and cavitation is more noticeable in modern Bosch and Miele than in my KDS-18 and reverse rack, which are hardly affected at all.  But I've found that my PowerClean will sometimes leak suds on the floor when using Platinum Pacs.  Tom has suggested adding a simethicone tablet to suppress the suds, which I've tried and found to be very effective.  Some detergents already contain it but Platinum Pacs do not.

 

Platinum Pacs also remove the iridescent stains left on stainless steel cookware whereas Finish detergents do not.  This is why I would always choose Platinum Pacs over Finish.  I'm using Platinum Pacs here in Madrid with the Bosch and performance is excellent despite the suds and cavitation that frequently occur.

Another point to make: adding STPP to any detergent will remove those iridescent stains from the pans.

Something like a heaped teaspoon, Bob.  I've only ever tested this in softened water.  I know you have hard water, so that may possibly change things.

Finish Ultimate

One thing I love about Finish Ultimate besides the smell, is that it doesn't bog down my spray arms and cause the pump to choke on suds like Cascade Platinum Plus with the power of bleach ever did. It sounded like my dishwasher was going into labor.
What the heck Cascade? Get with the program. For real!

I've only used Cascade Powder except for one ill advised bottle of Cascade Liquid that was awful, and I will wash by hand before I ever use pods. I get Cascade Powder at Menard's, stocking up when it's on sale.

I had to add gas capsules to my Powerclean it was about to leak out the front of the doors couple times now have to almost every cycle. Once this container is gone I will never use it again I shouldn’t have to add GAS CAPSULES to a dishwasher. I sent cascade a photo of the oversudsing from their product and reported it and told them there is no way that you all don’t know this happens if you’re actually testing it in the lab. From this point forward until the tub is empty I’ll just put a gas capsule into the main wash cup with the pac since my dispenser doesn’t get flooded in the pre rinse like all of the new dishwashers do. Probably will buy the Walmart brand advanced pacs those work so good and smell like apples and pears.

Yeah I have to agree.
I'm 100% percent certain that the chemists at P&G KNOW this happens, and are compromising on suds because something else in the formula is being forced on them by either cost or marketing. Or B) the chemists' hands are tied by some kind of desire from P&G marketing, and they're so jaded by now, they DGAF.

That's fine, but my dishwasher does. That's why the pump doesn't choke on suds. While it does clean, it hinders spray action. I know I'm not alone.

Trisodium Dicarboxymethyl Alaninate

That is the product that allows for the great cleaning, but is very likely responsible for the sudsy nature. As long as cleaning doesn’t suffer, they will add more of it to increase performance. AFAIK, there is more in the action pacs with each version as you work your way up to platinum plus. There is a study on Trisodium Dicarboxymethyl Alaninate specifically for dishwashing and how it compares to STPP. Seemingly does better.
