After sitting on the laundry room shelf for a couple of months, I decided to try our box of Compact Tide powder - Fresh Scent again. For those of you who remember, this stuff smelled like a HE chemical dump. It stunk the house up, it stunk the clothes up, etc.
When I opened the box I noticed the odor was greatly reduced. You know, this same thing happened to me with my box of Persil Bio Powder. It too make the whole house reek and even made our eyes burn. After a few months of sitting in the garage, it was safe to use.
I washed a few loads using the Tide powder and everything came out smelling nice and fresh, no HE odors. This is surprising as there is no HE logo anywhere on this box of Tide. The only other detergent that we have used that has had that kind of odor was Cheer HE liquid. It too smelled of HE type chemicals, but it was an HE detergent anyway.
Could it be that we have oversensitive noses? Or is "fresh" laundry detergent over fragranced over time looses its scent?
