I bought a bottle at work and noticed that it was stronger smelling than before. Supposedly the scent pearls technology got updated. The April Fresh smells different as well.

UHHO! I hope it doesn't smell that different or I'll have to use something else. I already do not like the way the new Tide smells.

That's not good news....
...please tell me it doesn't smell like the Suavitel blue now. Great softener, but it's way too perfumey for my tastes. I know lots of folks like a strong fragrance in their detergents and softeners; I'm just not one of them....and the April Fresh was plenty strong already.

Softner/Detergent Scents
I have to agree. The new Tide HE does stink, It is so strong the when my backyard neighbor hangs her was out I can smell it in my yard. Now our properties are not close. WE both have 60/100 lots. lol
I only like the original APril Fresh Downy. But....I have to say if you want a nice light Lavender scent, you have the try the Costco Brand Kirkland softner. It is really great.

it IS the Suavitel effect.
What I would LOVE would be the option for lightly scented mainstream products. Not unscented, but lightly scented.

for those who want lightly scented, maybe 2 options....
for my Mother, I mix her's 50/50 with water....and then add the regular amount to the dispenser, which now does not get clogged with this stuff.....
but for extra softening, couldn't you mix a bottle of regular Downy with one bottle of Downy Free n' Clear, this would dub down the scent....a little extra work, but you have to improvise to get what you want....

Well if this is the case then there is no reason for me to try the new Downy. I can't stand these strong sweet scents and the current versions Downy are way over the top. Do most people really like this? The scent lasts forever, you open your closet and the scent flies into your face and for the most part they smell like cheap perfume to me(just my opinion)

Try Purex almond milk and aloe. Very good softness light scent. I like it and it's cheap

If you're looking for a fabric softener reminiscent of vintage April Fresh Downy, sniff a comparable store brand. I'm using Food Club Ultra Supreme Softness Spring Fresh and it reminds me of April Fresh Downy from the '70s and '80s. It's got a very pleasant scent that is not overpowering.

I just remembered....the LA's Totally Awesome available at Dollar Tree is also very light on scent and nice. 21 loads for a buck isn't a bad deal in this economy.

P & G actually changed the scent of "april fresh" a while back. I wrote them can complained. I got a coupon for a free any size as an apology. I can still find the unconcentrated Downy here in florida which still has the original scent of "april fresh" fron the '70s and '80s. It's a shame that when a product is good they think they are making it better. I was always told that "if it ain't broke--don't fix it". P&G should learn a lesson from this.
