I never thought CR favored foreign appliances at least they didn't in 1996 when I bought my first Miele DW. In their review of it they mentioned that it was quiet but that it took 70 minutes to complete a cycle.
Next they said that it cleaned very well, and used about 4 gallons of water. Then they slammed that by saying that you had to clean the filter every time after use and you would use any water you saved to clean the filter. Really? This was when some DWs were using upwards of 7 to 10 gallons to complete a cycle.
Since I only checked my filter once a month and gave it a quick rinse even though there was not much there I couldn't believe they even gave the DW a close look.
Then there was their attitude towards a Miele or Bosch product. The way their reviews were written it lead me to believe that someone on the CR staff just had a bone to pick with anything that came out of Germany.
Things may have changed today but I was usually offended by their reviews of Miele and later Bosch products. I felt that some other agenda was behind the scenes with them then.
I used to take the appliance product surveys but they never had any option for me to really participate because they didn't want to hear about any product that was lasting without repair past 6 or 7 years. They just didn't want to consider that in their performance ratings. So if you are not going to take that into consideration when you are rating products what good are you?
I don't know how they are today, and am not likely to find out either. I resubscribed a few years ago only to discover that now they don't even go into details about how they test. So we are just supposed to believe and trust them.
