Like the reverse-rack Maytag dishwasher, this old GE Oven has to move to make room for new additions and work in the garage... It's free for the taking!! My father saved this from the curb a couple of years ago - at the time, he figured I might want a vintage built-in oven for the Ogden kitchen. However, I found something way better, so this poor ol' oven sat in the garage. I don't know a great deal about its exact age - it is a model 59J32. This was actually part of a two-oven unit; the colour is a bit of a mystery - it came from a neighborhood where GE built-ins were featured by the builder. I had scored a turquoise built-in range in the same neighbourhood, and I believe the one I got was a 1964 model. But the colour of this one is not one I am familar with... It seems like GE woodtone brown, but I think it was already out of production by the early 60s. It strikes a note of coppertone, but it seems less 'rich' than the coppertone I remember. Could it be sandalwood??

It's in kind of rough shape - the bake and broil elements are still good; the interior light and door switch are still good; the rotisserie motor still works. I was not able to test the thermostat though. Oh, and the clock is no longer working.
If anyone is interested, just send me a an email! I was hoping someone might take the whole thing, but if not, I am more than willing to part this out. There are good oven racks, the removable door is still OK, and there are controls and the control panel if anyone needs them. Just let me know...

Paul, that doesn't appear to be shaded, so it's certainly not Coppertone. I'm leaning toward it being Woodtone Brown, but it does seem that GE had another shade of tan between the end of that and Coppertone, that was only available for a short time. I sure would like to see a list sometime of EVERY color GE has ever made. It does seem like I saw a shaded color lighter than Coppertone at some point in time, that was on an early 60's GE BF fridge.

I was also unaware that the lower oven could be seperated from the upper. How were they connected? The knobs also seem different that what I'm used to seeing on these ovens. Is this a Canadian made model? Anyway, an interesting oven.

Tom, I remember seeing some GE 'smalls' in a colour similar to this. Funny thing was they were all made in Canada - this may have been a truly unique shade made here. The oven was definitely made in Canada - these two oven units were featured in a lot of early and mid-60s homes. The upper and lower ovens were literally bolted together - must have been easier for shipping and installation that way! I swear that if I had the lower oven, too, I'd probably be trying harder to keep it!! LOL

That's a shame the lower section is missing - could be a nice unit if complete. Will have to do some research to see if the double ovens made at Appliance Park at that time were in sections, too. Knew several people who had them, but never saw them uninstalled. I have a GE range service manual from the early 70's that includes built-ins, but it's at storage.

Matt, do you remember if the Hotpoint "light cocoa" color had edge shading (like a lighter version of Coppertone)? They and GE may or may not have shared all their colors at that time. Hotpoint had a different color selection in the mid-late 50's. There was a beautiful blue that was lighter than GE Cadet Blue, and not as green as Turquoise. They also had an unusual Terra Cotta shade.

Does anyone have access to GE catalogs of that era that would show all the colors? I need to visit the downtown library to see what they have.

I have a Hotpoint Custom Crest 40" double oven range in the same color, it is not shaded, is woodland brown. I absolutely love the color!!!!
